  1. Well, I'm by no means an expert. I'm looking also, but I can share what I've found. www.simplycharlottemason.com - she has some ideas for different ways to narrate what you're reading that might be fun for you. Drawing, dramatizing, etc. www.charlottemasonhelp.com - it's a schedule for the Higher Up and Further In curriculum that's based on Ambleside onlline Heart of Dakota is pretty CM (except for grammar - they start earlier than CM recommended.) I'm sure others will chime in with other ideas. Those are the places I frequent the most. I'm also really drawn to unit studies and will probably do them through the summers. I really like what I see of Christian Cottage Unit Studies! They look like so much fun! (I know, just what you needed - more choices:lol:!) Blessings in you search!!!
  2. I recently checked out their new website and it looks awesome! I plan to try a couple units. My kids were looking at it with me and begged me to buy the books. It looks like an improvement over the old format.
  3. I don't have a lot of advice, but I can commiserate!! :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I'll be schooling this year with a 1st, K'er, 2 1/2 yo , 1 1/1 yo, and a newborn currently 2 weeks old! We'll have to cry on each other's shoulders! I know women do it all the time, so it must be possible :)! Hang in there!! It helps that K and 1st aren't labor intensive!
  4. Paula, I have SOTW1 and the activity guide for sale. Like new condition. PM me if you're interested! Cheryl
  5. Another place you can look is www.simplycharlottemason.com . The have 2 6yr history cycles instead of 3 4yr cycles. You can follow their free curriculum guide and use whatever resources you want or you can follow their book suggestions and use their handbooks that include history, geography and bible. They also have a very helpful forum where you can ask questions. Hope that helps you a little!
  6. I would love to hear from those who have used SCM for at least 2 or 3 years!:D
  7. If you like the Charlotte Mason method (AO) then I would suggest you take a look at www.simplycharlottemason.com . She has a free curriculum guide that tells you what subjects to teach at what grade level and lots of book suggestions. A lot of people combine her suggestions with the booklists at AO. I agree with the pp's that said that the homeschooling world of curriculum can be overwhelming. Discover your teaching philosophy and your kids' learning style and go from there. Good luck on your journey!!
  8. Thank you, Kelli! I missed you! But I understand, I need to take a break also and get my house clean !!!!
  9. Thank you so much for this!! My kids will love it!! Not only is this "Waldorfy", it's also "Charlotte Masony" !
  10. Now your post has ME in tears! All 6 of our kids came to us through foster care, and each time we said, "NEVER again!". The emotional turmoil is great! With these boys it was kind of bittersweet because the bio mom actually loved them, but was truly incapable of parenting (lost previous child due to violent treatment by her). However, she showed no emotion at the last visit! Our first two were abandonded and the mother of our middle two couldn't wait to sign over custody when she found out we wanted them!! I think we're done now, but only God knows!! I can't bear to see an unwanted child get passed around!!! Oh, and we did thank our social worker profusely!!!!!! And we plan to send pictures and updates to him. Thank you! P.S. We plan to celebrate "Gotcha Day" every year! :D
  11. :grouphug::grouphug:'s to all of you!!! Thank you so much! I am so happy to hear of all the other adoptions! Adoption is such a wonderful gift to parent and child, in fact I would not be a parent if it weren't for adoption!!
  12. You are absolutely right! The keep us young and bring us joy every day!!
  13. That's so cool that you know them! Can you tell me how long it's been around? I only learned of it recently. I'm having a hard time finding reviews on it. Thanks!
  14. Thank you so much, ladies! It's so nice to share with people who will be happy for us and not think we're nuts!!
  15. I know that this is not technically homeschool related, but I usually only hang out in this forum and anyone who "knows" me will be here. Anyway, we went to court this morning to finalize the adoption of our little foster boys!!!!!!! We are sooooo excited!!!:hurray::hurray: I guess, this could be homeschool related - I just added 2 students to our school :tongue_smilie:! Just had to share, thanks!!
  16. Yeah, I know strict CM'rs don't use unit studies. They think kids should make their own connections rather than us planning it for them. But I LOVE the idea of unit studies and I really like Charlotte Mason. To me, a unit study would just entail a variety of activities and methods of learning a certain subject. I don't necessarily think all subjects need to be included. I'd like to base my studies on history and incorporate art, music, bible (if applicable) and maybe science (although I really like science to be interest led). I already have next year planned also. After my curriculum comes in the mail I'll decide if I want to turn around and sell it, or wait until the next year to look seriously into Epi Kardia. I'm also really interested in Christian Cottage Unit Studies :tongue_smilie:!! Sometimes the "buffet" of choices is overwhelming!!!!!
  17.:lol: LOL!! I thought it sounded like a heart medication! (gimme an epi kardia -STAT!!) I'm sure it doesn't attempt "all" of history in one year! It covers certain aspects of each time period, then the next year other aspects at a deeper level and so on. I think I may try it for a year or two. That really appeals to me.
  18. I did a search and could only find one post on this curriculum. Is there anyone else that has considered this? Or is using it? It's a lit-based, CM unit study curriculum that covers all of history every year. I think it sounds interesting.
  19. Thanks for calming me down, Jesse! I'll wait and see what comes of it before I jump into anything new;).
