  1. I'd like to know this too. I'd love to join if I can, but I don't live in the Southwest either. I have a feeling it would violate the terms of their agreement with United Streaming.
  2. What are your favorite educational computer games for ages 8-12? I was just shopping to replace our Liberty's Kids cd-rom, and came across some neat games I had not heard of before. I'd like to order a couple more games for my boys for Christmas. Any recommendations? We already own Zoombinis, Grammar Rock, and Jump Start 2nd Grade.
  3. A second computer Rosetta Stone - multiple languages Really nice bookcases Lots of children's literature
  4. Yes, it is the same show. :001_smile:
  5. My older son loves this series and has watched the entire thing four or five times. It really sparked an interest in American History for him. Now we are recording it for my younger son.
  6. I use the forms at www.donnayoung.org
  7. We are in a geography co-op, loosely based on Galloping the Globe.
  8. Doesn't IEW offer a money back guarantee, if you try it and don't like it?
  9. I also have a finished basement, with a school room, but we don't do school down there. The lack of natural light (one tiny window) really bothers me. Instead we sit at our dining room table next to a large bay window. :) And the former living room is now our home office, with a desk and computer for me, and a bookcase with our current curricula. I like that our dining room is next to our kitchen and our laundry room, so I can do some quick chores and still monitor the kids to keep them on task.
  10. I like to give cookies, pumpkin bread, fudge, and white chocolate popcorn. Also, my kids make ornaments. You can buy cheap supplies at Michaels or order cheap kits from Oriental Trading Company. Bookmarks are pretty easy to make too.
  11. I say keep participating unless it will be a negative experience for your kids.
  12. I'm disgusted too! Why can't they just tie???
  13. The subject came up when we were reading the Little House on the Prairie series. In one of the books, Ma tells Mary and Laura there is no Santa. I can't remember which volume though. so, ds11 knows the truth, but ds7 still believes.
  14. I love planning too! My dh took the kids out of town and I have spent the last two days home alone, happily planning our school year. I'm disappointed that I am almost done.
  15. Looks great! Thanks!
  16. Wow Kelly! When I grow up, I want to be as organized as you! :D Can I ask where you got the bookshelf?
  17. And I just have to add, when no food is involved, the risk of a reaction is minuscule. It makes absolutely no sense to exclude a child with food allergies when no food will be present. And, since you will be on site at the same time, in the very unlikely event of a reaction, they could have you administer the epi-pen to your daughter. Epi-pens are designed to be used by laypersons with no medical training. It really is no different than administering the Heimlich maneuver to a child who is choking. Is BFS willing to allow its volunteers to administer the Heimlich maneuver, or would that also be asking too much of them???
  18. :iagree: My ds has had an epi-pen for six years and has participated in plenty of activities run largely by volunteers and has always been welcomed.
  19. The Homeschool Buyers co-op has a discount offer right now for Voyages in English. Here is the link: https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/37349790/
  20. I started my school planning, but we won't officially start til the 25th. I'd like to start math next week, and maybe one other subject, as sort of a phase in to our full schedule.
  21. Yes, this is what WTM recommends. The letters aren't connected or curvy like the name "continuous stroke" implies. The letters look like traditional printing.
