  1. I just let be easy. The other levels get a little more difficult and there are plenty of other things in ds' day that are challenging. It's nice to have something that is just easy that ds can say, "Ahhhhhh" to. FLL is thorough and well put together. If it is getting the job done, there is no need to jump ship. Just my .02.
  2. :grouphug: I'm not really sure how to encourage you, but I can certainly empathize with you. Money's tight here, so when I've spent and invested I really feel like I need to use it. Last year, I faced something similiar but with Sonlight. We had enjoyed cores P4/5 through core 2. I bought all of core 3, but just couldn't make it work for us. For some reason, with that particular core we were all miserable. I spent the first have of the year trying to get through it. Finally, in December dh had enough of it, and he told me try something else. We made the switch to TOG in January of last year by trying one unit. For us, the switch was good. But we also started half way through year 2. I do use STOW for a spine with TOG. My kids love it. I use the other books for my kids to read more in depth. This is what works for us. I also don't block out a set time for history. It may only take us 30 minutes on Wednesday when we do geography. That's okay with me. Today, all we did was a crossword I made to work on the vocab. We may have spent 20 minutes. But all of the reading was done for the week. I have my kids do notebooking and that has really helped cement things for them. I'm sorry that your so frustrated. I have watched your threads as you've prepared for TOG. You spent a lot time researching and getting ready for it. I really hope you can find a way to make your history studies all you want them to be.
  3. Sorry...I didn't even think of that! :tongue_smilie:
  4. Oh, sheesh...I picked the wrong day to ask a question and post a poll. My thread is now buried. What is up with all the polls today?
  5. How many gigs is enough? I keep looking and trying to decide between 8 or 16. 32 seems like overkill, but maybe not. How many gigs do you have? Are you satisfied? I'll make it a poll for fun.
  6. It depends on how you want to do it. We do ours in the big bottle and then pour into smaller bottles later. We have also made vanilla from different varieties of beans and had several small bottles with different kinds of beans going at the same time.
  7. He is pokey, constantly distracted, and he is keeping me from giving to the other 2 children what they need. I know I won't do it, but AAAAAAHHHHHHH! Okay, vent over.
  8. I introduced this poem to ds last week in FLL. He groaned about memorizing. It is the first poem he has ever balked at memorizing. We are currently memorizing The Preamble, so I may just skip the memorization of it. It is encouraging though to see so many have memorized it and enjoyed the challenge.
  9. Good advice on JVC! That's the other issue I'm trying to figure out. Where will I put all this stuff?
  10. I'm curious about it. I've reread that section several times over, and I love the idea of it. Looks a bit pricey, but I think in a way, it might be worth every penny. I know my ds would love it! I'd love to hear from others that have done it. How did it go? Things that went well or things that you would do differently. I'm all :bigear:.
  11. We really liked it too! We laughed a good bit, and I cried a little a the end. I agree with the PP that there is definately a market for more good family films like this!
  12. He sound a lot my oldest. No advice, but I can offer a :grouphug:. Listening in though. :bigear:
  13. Glad you are enjoying it! We made the move from SL last year, and it's been a good move for us. I love how customizable TOG is.
  14. Dry erase markers on mirrors or windows. My kids love that!!! (then I give them a little Windex and have them clean it off;))
  15. This is a good idea. It would take some coordination on my part, but I think that might be an option worth exploring. Thanks!
  16. Ds2 may need the help, but certainly would rather him seek help on his own then have big brother take over and do for him. I like your idea about have one lead one project and then switching. I'll discuss that with dh and get his input.
  17. Thank you. This is helpful. My biggest concern is ds1 has this tendency to take over and not let ds2 do any of the building. ds2 is already tagging along really, but I want him to have the opportunity to really experience things for himself. Since I don't have any previous experience with Elemental Science, I just wondered what has worked for those who have used the program. Especially those that have shared it among siblings. Thanks for your input.
