  1. Spelling is the one area neither ds or I are content with. I want to make sure he is getting the basic and the rules down; he is getting bored by the constant repitition. It's easy for him. So, we have days were he fakes not knowing how to spell and creates a whole other battle. We sat and had a heart-to-heart about this issue this weekend. He wants a challenge. He needs more. I have looked at AAS and pretty much ruled it out b/c I think while he'd like the hands-on, he would still be unchallenged. Am I wrong on this? Are there programs out there for kids that get it and need the challenge?
  2. I cannot comment on WWE 3 b/c we aren't there yet, but we are currently working in WWE 2. Yes, the lines are the same as book one in book 2. They may be a tad smaller. I didn't really compare. I have my ds copy and do his work on HWT paper instead of using the workbook pages themselves. He complained that the lines were too big!
  3. I'll look into those sites. Thanks for sharing. I looked at this again last night. It's back on the table for consideration. We are currently using MCP Phonics C, and he likes it. So, when I showed him SWO he liked the look of it. But then turned around and said, "I like the one with the letter tiles too." Looking into the TM that go with it. I wondered if I'd really need the TM, but I'll definately take a look after reading your post. This is why AAS did appeal to me b/c it does teach this!
  4. This makes sense to me. Thank you for your thoughts. I will check out those links. Thanks. This may be exactly what I needed to hear. My ds has a strong phonics base since I am a reading specialist. He is a natural reader and applies his phonics skills pretty well to his spelling. Sometimes we have to talk through things to get it, but usually he can work it out. I have wondered if AAS would be like backtracking for him or overkill.
  5. I'm curious about something. I have been researching for months spelling program for next year. We have been using SL LA up to this point, but have have the switch to WWE and FLL. I recently got the newest addition for WTM just to see its recommendations for spelling. Why are Spelling Power and Spelling Workout the only ones recommended? Are there not any others that are equally as good? I'm not sure I want a workbook only approach of Spelling Workout. Spelling Power is just not something that seems to appeal to my teaching style at all. I keep looking at AAS, but I'm not ready to bite the bullet and order it yet. I'm rambling now...sorry. I'm just curious as to SWB's reasoning here.
  6. We stop for a little while, work really hard on them, and then move on. My ds really had a hard time with the +8 and +9 facts. For some reason, they just really took longer to memorize. I take one day a week usually just to do online drill on facts, flashmaster, flashcards, or play quizmo with him. It helps keep his facts up.
  7. Which one do you prefer to have your children learn and why?
  8. We use MUS and love it. I'm determined to stay with this program and see it through. If we weren't using it though, I'd definately use RightStart.
  9. I did notice they had other levels of Latin Alive in the works. I'm really trying to bathe this one in prayer. I like your suggestion though. I'll have to really consider that.
  10. Thanks, Marie! It's good to see you here. I've been lurking here a good long while, but just now really starting to post here. I have narrowed down Latin to either Latina Christiana or Latin for Children. I'm leaning toward the latter. I found the review at Rainbow Resource very helpful too. Thanks for pointing that out. I want to choose something we can use and continue with throughout their schooling. I may even start my middle one in Song School Latin just so he is like big brother. Then it can reinforce what ds1 is learning. Although that will completely depend on funds.
  11. What made you decide to do Ecclesiastical pronounciations vs. classical?
  12. We have done SL LA K, 1, 2, and now 2 int. I have a love hate relationship with SL's LA. I really liked 1, 2 was okay, and I ditched 2 intermediate. We switched to WWE. I was already using FLL to supplement SL. I'm glad we made the switch. LA is going so much better. I have the freedom to allow my ds to read his readers at his own pace which was half of the issue. He constantly read the readers way ahead of pace in the IG.
  13. The DVD lesson and the pronunciation cd are a definate plus for me since I have no background in Latin at all.
  14. I want to start my ds on Latin next school year. I am starting to research now, so I can hopefully pick the right program for him. He'll be in 3rd grade. What Latin curricula do you like best and why?
  15. I think you can use them in any order you wish. That's the impression I got from the CW website. I was thinking of using it for 3rd grade for next year.
