  1. From my experience you are much more likely to get a false negative than a false positive on a PCR test.
  2. I definitely think there is a transition period when they come home, so expect that. It takes a while for my dd to get used to being at home again so it is a bit stressful for her to make the transition, not because of rules but because the whole routine etc is different. It was worse the first year she was at college, and she seems to adapt much quicker now.
  3. Actually probably not because I see them further down the line when they aren't worried about taste or smell any more 😪, but it definitely seems like a very frequently reported symptom from what I've read.
  4. I've been thinking about an article I read at the beginning of March and posted on FB. It is amazing how clear thinking the journalist was so early on, about what the real problems would be! https://medium.com/@amwren/forget-about-the-death-rate-this-is-why-you-should-be-worried-about-the-coronavirus-890fbf9c4de6
  5. I just want to try and ease your fears a bit. One of the advantages of a trach is that the person can be more comfortably awake, and being more awake really does help recovery. She would have to be reasonably stable for them to be able to do the trach procedure. I’m not trying to say she is out of the woods or anything but I wouldn’t necessarily read anything really negative into it.
  6. It makes me wonder what some people think when they see other countries implementing stringent measures now, if those people are even paying attention. Do they think that virtually the whole rest of the world is over-reacting or stupid? You would think that it might give them some qualms when it is business as usual where they are, but maybe not?
  7. Lancet article about Non Pharmaceutical Interventions to reduce spread. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(20)30785-4/fulltext
  8. Me too! It does really feel like there is finally light at the end of the tunnel!
  9. Very encouraging! Probably a bit premature, but I'm really starting to hope it won't be long before I can travel back home and see my parents again. And hug them!
  10. If she had Covid it almost certainly was what caused a PE. That is not uncommon at all with our Covid patients.

  12. If you do write the cookbook, which I hope you don’t if it means going out of business lol, I will definitely buy one! I follow your cafe FB page and always wish I was nearby so I could buy some of your bargain boxes! Yum!
  13. A dr I work with was talking to a patients family and said the last one anything like this was 1918.
  14. I don’t know I’m afraid. I haven’t kept an eye out for that recently.
  15. Not sure if I’m understanding the issue correctly but I know they do very regular random sampling in the UK ( or at least England) to try and get an idea of the true infection rate.
  16. I couldn’t see any more information about further age breakdown. The study is supposed to be released soon on line.
  17. Just read an article on the BBC about long Covid. I was going to try and link it but can’t figure it out. You are more at risk of it if you are female and over 50, if you have 5 different symptoms in the first week, and if you have asthma or other lung disease. 1 in 20 ill for at least 8 weeks 1 in 45 ill for at least 12 weeks
  18. @kand we have a pretty good supply of PPE now, or at least way better than March. We do have to wear the same mask for a number of days though, maybe 5, but I’m pretty sure that is a cost cutting measure and they aren’t keeping them locked up all the time like they were. I am still using the same positive air pressure hood that I was given in March, and it’s supposed to be used for 3 days and then thrown away. I think we’ve discovered some pretty interesting things about disposables during this time.
  19. I just walked through the only ICU in my county this morning and even counting beds it was incorrect, and the beds occupied have been very much the same for some days. The inaccuracy probably comes from our health department though.
  20. Interesting site. When I checked my county the ICU capacity information was not correct though, so not sure what sort of a lag there is.
  21. We have set up an extra critical care area but finding staff is very difficult.
  22. I look after people later on in the process but a number of them have complained of dizziness so it may be a more common symptom than we know, at the moment.
  23. That is not true in my area - midwest. The patients we are getting in the ICU are sicker and we have lost many more than we did in the spring. Our area did not have a hard lock-down and over the summer many people just went back to life as normal - in fact the local businesses had their best season financially ever! It seems that more people came here because we had so few restrictions. Rates of infection have been increasing and now we have many patients in the hospital.
  24. Please can you share the reliable treatment you’re talking about.
