  1. There's a GIS courses in my future too. There's a whole major here for GIS/Cartography and it sounds really interesting.
  2. You might consider what related anthropology area interests you. Since they don't have an anthropology program, a related area might fit. For example, social/cultural anthropology would tie into history. Evolutionary/biological anthropology would tie into the sciences. Linguistic anthropology ties into languages. These are just a few but may give you some direction.
  3. I understand about the movies, it's getting so hard to find any without big flashy scenes for excitement.
  4. I can sympathize too. My son is 15 and fast approaching the 'when can I drive' stage. It won't be for a long time. While his full-blown seizures are under control for now, he still has absence seizures off and on.
  5. I have this same issue (and do tae kwon do). Talk to your instructors and I bet they will have some suggestions. Even the 20-something male - it's likely you are not the only one and he's heard it before ;)
  6. I would suggest also looking at her future courses, if she has some idea of her major, as they may require a certain type. For example, here the photography majors are required to have an Apple beginning their second year.
  7. I signed up too! I thought it might be a good lead-in to fall. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it as we go along :)
  8. Pulling this back up as I thought of you this morning. I came across this on Coursera - an overview of archaeology starting in June: https://www.coursera.org/course/secrets
  9. I am in Bozeman, but lived in Livingston for ten years. It's so casual in my neck of the woods that most years, I just called the superintendent and let him know by phone :) They will mail you the form if you call and request it. Check Yahoo groups for your area. Our local group still uses it and and for years. On the attendance, they can request it but we've never had a request for it ever. I was really surprised when we moved here at how popular homeschooling is, and how willing to rise up and take action the families are to keep it so free and open. Here is the link to Montana Coalition of Home educators. http://www.mtche.org/ It has the legal wording of the homeschool law, some useful links, history of homeschooling in the area, and they generally keep an eye to any possible legislation that might concern homeschoolers.
  10. I found the "There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1" shirt hilarious (as did hubby). I think out of those the Troubleshooting shirt is my favorite. There are many days I agree with this :)
  11. I think there is your common denominator. If the parents won't do anything it's really hard for an 'outsider' to correct the behavior.
  12. Bikini Zone makes a gel and a cream, and Sally Hansen has a No Bumps spray. All for use after to help prevent the red bumps and irritation.
  13. Our anthropology department has an archaeology focus (which I'm starting in the fall) and they also require one course in each area as Nan noted above before specializing. What might be helpful is to find a school with that major and look at the degree requirements. They will list all the courses they require, which will be a good outline for you. If they have an online bookstore, you can usually search for that class and see what books they use as well, to give you some direction in study materials.
  14. Your post made me smile, Erin. I, too, had the 'brutal' English teacher who absolutely insisted on good grammar and writing. College writing, both creative and reports, was so much easier for me and now that I am a writer, I still think of her often with fondness and gratitude.
  15. I'd definitely suggest the dining hall. They'll be eating there a lot and is something to consider in the overall picture.
  16. I have the HD+ and love it. It's pretty thin and not too heavy. A friend has a tablet with a smaller screen and I'm so glad I got hte bigger one. I saw a news release yesterday that now, the HD+ will be able to use the apps on Google Play now as well, so it's no longer limited to BN's app store - very good news. The newer shipping ones will have it on there but the ones in stock may need to update which will be simple to do.
  17. Let us know how it goes. It's funny, all my life, math made me want to tear out my hair but it's going far better this time through. And thanks for the mentions of AoPS and Alcumus. Going to check them out as well. I have to agree with your view on the man's voice on Khan Academy. I've been using it mostly to fill in things that came before this pre-alg book...like reviewing fractions. Keep us posted on how it's going. I am still absolutely amazed that I am enjoying math. Granted, it's 'easy' math but still, it's math..LOL!~
  18. I am in your shoes too. I am going back to college after getting my B.S. in 1985. Some of the classes I will need require a math pre-requisite which I've had but don't remember a thing. According to my transcript, I had three math classes back then. Who knew? *g*. I am taking the summer to review so I can skip the remedial stuff and just take one that 'counts' even though I had it so long ago. Math was never easy for me at all. I am going through pre-algebra atm. The Khan Academy website has a lot in this area. I'm also working my way through Kiss My Math by Danica McKellar and it's been great. Granted, it's geared for teen girls, but it's funny and entertaining and she explains some things in ways I only wish my previous math teachers/professors had done. I'm actually enjoying it and that's saying a LOT for someone who's always considered math a four letter word. I'll end up re-using this with the girls when they get to pre-algebra. She's also done books on basic math, geometry and algebra as well. The Khan Academy videos are a great add in. There are also quite a few quiz type sites online. Spark Notes has a great pre-algebra quiz to test yourself. A few: http://www.sparknotes.com/math/prealgebra/review/quiz.html http://www.glencoe.c...uiz/index.php4/ http://www.technolog...re-algebra.html http://www.algebrahelp.com/ http://www.kutasoftw...om/freeipa.html http://www.math.com/...PreAlgebra.html
  19. I've been looking into this from a student POV instead of parent, as I wanted something to use when I return to college in the fall. I found two that I like, and they even include the ability to keep notes in them and attach files. http://trackclass.com http://myschoolbinder.com/
  20. Found it :) For Mac. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000464931
  21. Go to Amazon and download the Kindle for PC software. Once it's installed, open it under Tools on the menu bar go to options, then registration. It will connect to your account, then when you go to your library on the Amazon site, under Deliver To... you should see Kindle For PC listed.
  22. Calorie King has a great online counter: http://www.calorieking.com/
  23. Lysol makes them. I saw it at the store just a few days ago: https://www.lysol.co...and-soap-system It's not gorgeous but not totally ugly or 'institutional' :)
  24. I've had iron issues off and on since I was a kid. Just last week, I was tested and the doc had put me on 2 pills a day. They suggested SlowFe, but I already had Feosol (the carbonyl iron variety) which is also a slow absorbing one and have had no issues with it.
  25. Shelsi, I can relate to the intimidation factor. I graduated with my B.S. in 1985. I have no idea how 28 years went by, it's all a blur :) I am both a little nervous and really looking forward to it, but it will be odd to be in classes with people young enough to be my kids.
