  1. I have no words of wisdom for you. This is something that has been on my heart for some time, but I am waiting until my own children are a bit older. I can't justify the possibility of putting my own kids at risk. I was a troubled youth- and while I would have never intentionally harmed younger children I was around- my mindset, actions, and words would not have done them any good either. Unless I was sure God was telling me to (not sure if you are a Christian or not so disregard if needed) I would wait until my children were older.

  2. We have a beautiful male lab. He has been with us since he was a puppy and is now about 8. We live in the country on several acres, completely fenced. However, he is a roamer. It has never been a huge issue because he doesn't chase cats, or eat chickens, and plays well with others. Until recently- about the past 6 months he has been aggressive to a couple neighbor dogs. So we tried harder to keep him contained. Inside the house quite a bit during the day, kenneling at night, etc... But anytime he is outside he bolts. I can't keep him in a chain or leash at all times. He is constantly digging out and I have even tried an electric shock collar to deter him. I am at my wits end. We can't keep him if we can't break him of this. I was considering getting him fixed because I have heard that helps, but then so many say it will only be a deterrent if they are young, once the habit is formed there isn't anything you can do. We didn't have him fixed earlier because we had a friend using him as a stud dog since he is AKC registered. Any advice? I am at the end of my rope with him.

  3. Yes, I second getting test strips, and taking in samples of water. 1 year the test strips would read no chlorine after I had added it, so I kept adding more. Finally took a sample in (water was clear blue) and I can't remember the exact name, but basically I had "chlorine locked" my pool. Luckily not too bad, and we were able to salvage it, but now about once a month while I am going that way I take in a sample.

  5. Thank you for all the replies. This is exactly what I was asking for. I was wondering how many stick to college entrance requirements and how many pave their own way. With my son we stuck closely to college requirements but found since he had dual credit and was continuing at community college (for financial reasons) that his highschool transcript didn't matter much.

  6. Just wondering what requirements you have for graduation from your homeschool. I know what state requirements for our state public schools, but they don't apply to homeschool. I see what colleges require, but most of that is obsolete when you do community college first. So share what are your requirements?

  7. We used these for ages 10 and under. My understanding is that the reading level of the books were kept low on purpose- other higher level reading books were read, but not the base of the study. They are not the most rigorous approach by any means, but that is not the authors intent. They are more concerned with interest being sparked, a love of learning igniting. You can always go as deep as you want and go on bunny trails when you find things that spark your students interest. It is meant to be a literature gateway to many topics. If I were using them above the age of ten I would add in chronological history, and make sure to have the student reading some classic- good books, maybe a apologia jr science.
