Just finished my first read through of this book. Wow! It spoke to me right where I am in life (2 graduated, 2 to go) and our thinking, and life experience was very similar- right down to our oldest sons joining the Navy. Every mom should read this book. â¤ï¸

Agree- definitely need the workbook. I have used Writeshop for years- with my own children, in a co op, and to tutor others. It's a great program.

I have graduated 2, and like Kinsa have never heard of that. Depending on the child, I just look at what colleges are wanting, and base our graduation requirements on that. We have never had an issue.

I can relate to this- but I recently launched my oldest to the Navy and my next to the local community college. 2 teens left homeschooling. It's hard. I echo everything Kinsa said.

Dive for teaching the lessons. I also bought Saxon teacher as a "solutions manual" for the upper levels. Sometimes I am not clear on how they solve the problem so those help.

We have liked all the writing books by Sharon Watson. I used Jump in after Writeshop 1 for my 7th grade Dd- will finish up in 8th. Meanwhile I used her 2 highschool ones Creative writing for 9th grade Dd, and Power with my older daughter who just graduated. It was a refresher on different styles of writing for her. Step by step, and she didn't complain. I have never used her literary analysis because we used IEW for that.

[Which do you truly believe is the healthiest "diet?" Lifestyle, not weight loss.]

Trim Healthy Mama. It's basically protein centered, low glycemic, and whole foods. It's not just a weightloss diet, but a healthy lifelong diet.

[Is Notgrass history enough?]

It is plenty here. We go more in depth in other areas, but there are only so many hours in a day.

[WriteShop Junior--what do you like or not like?]

I've only used Writeshop E for the lower levels. It was good. I skipped most of the projects and busy work- but the writing it produced was good. I love the older levels of Writeshop. It has produced good writers step by step. I've used it at home and at co op, and it has done wonders for the students writing.

[Oppinions on WriteShop?]

We love Writeshop here. I have used it at home and co op. I don't always do every part of every lesson (teacher part) and still get great results. The skill builders are a great asset, and I love the detailed checklists. It is not too overbearing, but gives creative direction.

My son is in the Navy. Has he looked at the ASVAB? Taken a practice one? If he scores well enough- why not just graduate him early? Then, just let the Navy train him. Just a thought. They will take them at 17 with parent permission. I would just prepare for the ASVAB.

[HOD high school]

I have only looked at them- a friend of mine uses them. I know she loves them- her kids love them as much as they can "love" school. I loved the looks of the geography one, the notebooks are beautiful and they use great resources.

[My 17yo Son Shipped Out to Basic Training a Week Ago]

Been there. My son left for the Navy in November. He was in basic for Thanksgiving and Christmas- graduated New Years Eve. Prayers. It was the hardest thing I have ever done as a mom- dropping him at the recruiting station before he shipped out. He is doing well now in his school- graduates mid July- but from homeschool mom to no contact for 9 weeks was tough! Now we talk several times a week.

^^ what she said. You will see so many desserts because that is what everyone seems to get excited about- it's not as easy to get worked up over dinner as it is a yummy chocolate cake. While I love the blender drinks they are not an every day thing for me.

I know several of you practice jiu Jitsu and I was just wondering what the cost of lessons are. I know it will vary by area, but just looking to get an idea of what to expect. The girls are 12 and 15 if that helps.

[History-MOH, Biblioplan, or Notgrass?]

Nothing that will make your choice easier. All 3 are solid programs. Not grass is all inclusive and requires less library or outside book purchases. The other 2 require a bigger budget or library trips depending on which option you choose, and how hands on you want to be. I used and loved the older biblioplan before all the new add ons while mine were 3-8. I use Notgrass in highschool. I haven't bought the new Notgrass programs for younger students because what we have in Biblioplan is bought, paid for and works. That said I have friends who love the younger Notgrass years too. I have very limited experience with MOH, sink won't comment on that.

[Using Windows to the World with the syllabus by Jill Pike]

I have. I loved it and will use it again for my other 2 left at home. I already own Teaching the Classics so we used it, but it is not required. I do think it helps, but if money were tight you could get by without it. Jill's syllabus was a great help, and it brought in full length novels to work through which I thought was important for practice.

While it is definitely from a Christian perspective I think there are great ideas there that are not necessarily faith based. She divides it out by month- traditions or books or movies every month. Hikes, special meals, special outings, family celebrations, that sort of thing.

I really loved the book and the message of family.

My Walmart has several to choose from. I mainly use my young living one- but I am getting color changing ones for the bedrooms from Amazon as I can.

I like and use both. Gentle sweet for all my skinny chocolate, and several recipes where it specifically mentions it. I also really like the Super Sweet Blend. You can't go wrong with either- but super sweet is more cost effective if that matters.
