  1. I'm so happy for you. I hope your family has a very Merry Christmas together!
  2. If a book stinks then I don't keep going so I can't vote on worst book I've read this year. However, I'll vote for my DH who read The Irregulars by Roald Dahl. It was about Roald's time in Washington being a spy during WWII but there was no adventure or espionage or anything exciting. DH said it was just a bunch of people going to parties and chatting. He keeps trying to get me to read it so I would know how boring it was too.
  3. Well, geez. I was just cruising the male underwear department at Target today. :001_smile: In case anyone was wondering ... I bought a few pairs of black dress socks.
  4. Cool. Thanks for the suggestion. He does like the Beatles!
  5. Mere Christianity by CS Lewis Who the Hell is Pansy O'Hara by ??? (excellent book with short histories on how tons of famous books came to be) The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease
  6. I'm looking for a CD for my dad and need recommendations and maybe help on where to find such a thing. My dad loves Germany. Was stationed there in the 60's and we just recently took a trip back. He loves the culture, the food, the language, everything. I would like to find him a CD of German music but not drinking songs. He loves oldies so American oldies sung in German would be neat. So would German oldies (50's, 60's, 70's). No recent music though because he's not a fan. Even old German folk music would be cool. Can anyone help? I don't even hardly know where to begin looking. (I don't need it in time for Christmas so buying something off the internet is okay.) Thanks so much!
  7. This made me smile this morning because I told DH that if he was getting me a mandolin for Christmas it sure would be awesome if I could open it early because I was making scalloped potatoes for Christmas dinner. I suspected I was getting one because I had mentioned constantly for a year that I really wanted one. I got to open it early so now dinner will be so much easier to put together. :) I've still got a few things under the tree to unwrap and I have no idea what they are. I'll be suprised!
  8. Germany. If it's super cold and snowy there then DH won't want to go with me. My second choice (his first choice) would be St John's in the Virgin Islands. So nice!
  9. This is a great suggestion. Of course as long as the oldest girl isn't being dressed in a toddler style dress than I might just have them wear them once, get a picture, and forget about it. It's a nice thought she had.
  10. Ooh. All these stories of kids doing free style dives off bunk beds is making me nervous. We're looking at buy bunkbeds for the girls and Cameran is type to try a jump off of it!
  11. Me too. Lots of blood and violence. There are tons of fantastic WWII movies that could have been chosen!
  12. This is what I do too. St Nicholas doesn't bring any presents ... just stockings on Christmas morning so there is no reason for me to hold any presents back. My kids are very interested in the presents but they don't know which ones are theirs because my sister and I have three kids between the two of us. We're naming all the presents Huey, Duey, and Luey. They won't know who Huey, Duey, and Luey are until it's time to open the presents! (Actually they've got a pretty good idea that Luey is the baby because those presents "rattle" like a baby's present would. Clever kids!)
  13. Seeing how we need to be reminded I don't think this is the case. It's a history we should NEVER try to forget. I don't think it's just the sign that's left there, I'm sure it's a museum or something now.
  14. Why does my husband snap at me when I'm in the process of doing him a favor and have to ask him a question? :glare: Can you tell I just got off the phone with my husband who is appearantly running an errand near the mall where traffic is insane? Still, I'm not the lady in the mini-van that just cut him off!
  15. Nice photo album, a gc to print some photo's (CVS, Walgreens, etc), and add a few picture into it that are your favorites. Maybe a nice quote or poem too about family, friendship, or growing older and wiser?
  16. We use this a lot. We're taking the gang to Winter Park in Feb. There are places my DH and I like skiing better but Winter Park is an awesome place to take kids.
  17. There is something wrong with people! Just horrible. I would hate to have that sort of karma on my soul.
  18. This is a good idea. Some suggestions: -Ticket to Ride -Settlers of Cataan -Casconne -Apples to Apples Those are all fun 'adult' games.
  19. We found ours at Costco too. Love them. ETA: Nevermind, I see you are Costco-less where you live. What about TJ Max? We've had good luck there in the past. We've also had bad luck. That place is kind of hit or miss but you could get lucky.
  20. I'll be here for hand holding and hugs. I went through surgical menopause when I was 17 because of cancer so I understand about those hot flashes. Whew. Glad those are done. We are just starting our IVF process so I love hearing success stories. It makes me so hopeful!
  21. I just posted in the other thread and my dress cost $100. It was on sale at David's Bridal for cheap and it fit perfectly. Originally I wanted a super puffy Cinderella dress but I'm glad I went with the dress I did. It was perfect for my figure.
  22. I wasn't around the first time this thread came around but I sure want to jump in now. :001_smile: My dress was $100 because we found it on sale and it fit perfectly. I was very lucky!
  23. My DH and I are trying to figure out what kind of bunk beds to get our girls. I would like nice solid wood bunk beds that will last for years. He is kind of leaning towards cheap ones that will last for maybe five years. Ugh. I HATE cheap furniture. It's what we have now and it's falling apart, dinged, and generally a PIA. He's agreed to get the nice stuff IF I can find a bunk bed set that's a full on the bottom/twin on the top, not made in China, and made of solid wood. Any suggestions on where to find this? Thanks!
  24. Thanks for the suggestions. Those both look really interesting. Might have to add them to my library list! (or borrow them from sis when she's finished :001_smile:)
  25. I've got these book sets on my list to buy because they're books we'll read over and over: Narnia series Complete Harry Potter Series LOTR Little House Series I think they'd be very nice to have all in hardback matching sets for a family library. ETA: I'd also really like a hardback set of the complete Sherlock Holmes.
