  1. grader, with a timeline, the activity guide, KF encyclopedia and whatever books we have or get from the library. I should add that my 5th grader knows world history backwards and forwards, and has listened to and read all the volumes of SOTW. I still think for her it will be the best jumping off guide to studying more deeply, plus it will be the first time using the AG to it's fullest, and MY first time using the logic stage guidelines as presented in Well Trained Mind. We're both very excited about this year. You can't beat SOTW cost-wise, organization-wise, or ease of use-wise, at least not in my humble opinion. Good luck and have fun! Penny
  2. otherwise it's homeschool only. I think ps teacher's discriminate against hs kids, like they have to prove their way is better or something by making hs kids look and/or feel inadequate. I don't ever plan to mix and match, hopefully all the way through! I would consider school if my highschooler wanted it (despite my thoughts on the evils of public highschools...), just to try, but I wouldn't mix and match, it's one or the other - I think this island has lots of lovely and charming people in it! Penny
  3. Thanks for sharing this - it looks great! http://www.google.com/products?client=safari&rls=en&q=stranger+safety+superchick&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title Penny
  4. ... to explore the world! Good luck with your move, and may it all be better than you can possible imagine!!!!! Cheers - Penny
  5. ... calling them? 1-800-222-5870 is the number on my sample pages. Also, have you seen Lightning Lit? The seventh grade program looks pretty good (I have a 5th grader next year, I would do this one slowly :)). http://www.hewitthomeschooling.com Although, truthfully, Jr. Great Books appeals to me more... Good luck! Penny
  6. that's weird that they haven't shown up on your mailbox. Mine did take about 3-4 weeks though. The samples look great, so I'm really glad you asked this question, I'll be curious to hear (see?) what people say! Cheers - Penny
  7. This will be fun - the dandelions are just beginning to grow here! marie
  8. Unfortunately though, I haven't learned to trust myself. I keep finding that I buy the stuff that gives me the bad vibe if people keep recommending it - I guess I think of it as a veg I don't like but should eat. Often as not, I should've trusted myself - maybe one of these days I'll learn! NOEO Physics II was a good example of this. Snooze. Marie

  10. Easy Homeschool Techniques by Lorraine Curry? Lots of good info in there - we've way overspent too - I think I lost my mind for awhile... Good luck! Marie
  11. ... and will be well heeded - thanks for the nudge :) ...and go have some fun so that your eldest doesn't forget how! :) Be well, Marie
  12. Noeo is secular - it looks like it isn't, but it is. It also follows WTM topics. Just a thought - good luck! Just google Noeo Science if you're interested... Marie
  13. I'm Peso, homeschooling two daughters, eldest (gr 4) accelerated 2 or 3 grades in LA and history, youngest (gr K) accelerated 2 grades in math and even more in science (of course, it *couldn't* be the same subjects!) - we've always homeschooled, except for a brief time in K with my eldest, who turned 10 yesterday! We're headed the LCC way, but not necessarily with LCC recommendations - math, for example, will never be a rote/drill program for us, the more games the better! We do love SOTW, but on audio, and we do the projects but not the written stuff. My girls write copious amounts of imaginative work, so I haven't stressed it - I will look at SWB's writing program though, since it spans such a wide range of ages - I'd probably use it for prompts without the workbooks... I'm also looking into bravewriter, which might suit us better... The youngest plays violin, the eldest piano, they both swim and goof around quite a bit :) It's a pretty great life, all in all... Thanks for sharing! Penny
  14. I just read this too - and it makes so much sense to me - I'll be curious to read the answers - I'd love to know how people jump in if they are in the middle, say, grade 3. It'll be easy to start my first grader :) Also, did you know that there will be a revised edition of the book out this summer? I'm really looking forward to it - I enjoy Mr. Campbell's writing style - PLUS - he's understanding about the fact that not everyone comes from the same place, faith-wise... My plan is to use LCC for everything but science, and use WTM guidelines for that. I'm sure we'll keep using SOTW as well, even if it's just as a supplement. There's also a Yahoo group (latinclassicaled) that is very informative and low key - Anyway, I know this doesn't answer your question, but I hope you now you're not alone :) Peso
