Scarlett Posted September 11, 2017 Share Posted September 11, 2017 (edited) I am super excited because we have materials purchased, an agreement in place for the labor and they plan to start Tuesday or Wednesday. They are installing the rest of our windows and the siding. Dh is installing the new front door which we hope to buy this week. I have made a decision on the paint and Dh likes it so it is a go and I won't second guess myself again. Paint is a big decision. Oh the green is the house, the almost white is the trim and yellow is front door. There will be some copping (scallop detail) above the front A frame window to break that up a bit. We tore out our kitchen and installed new kitchen cabinets this weekend. The cabinets are in but we still need to get the dishwasher, countertops, and sink in. We tore out our kitchen and installed new kitchen cabinets this weekend. The cabinets are in but we still need to get the dishwasher, countertops, and sink in. After the exterior is done...which could be with in3 weeks, we are putting a for sale sign out front. There is a house in town we like....maybe it will still be there. Luckily there is nothing available where we want to live currently so that isn't eating away at me. I keep listing the things I don't like about the other house so I can deal with it not being there when we need it. Lol.....but gee it has so many things we want. Perfect location putting all of us 15 minutes closer to school and work. In town. Nice neighborhood. All fresh and new...basically move in condition..... We have interior work to do here as well....but our plan is to put it for sells soon as the exterior is done. I mean the starting bid leaves tons of room for us to fix any actual problems and then still have it increase in value. But tons of people know that so I can't imagine it staying low. I know people who have bid on houses with just seeing that outside and trying to peek a look through the windows. I couldn't do that. This was a suggested combination....it is actually MUCH more white than what I wanted, but my new windows are white so I don't want to have too much contrast between the windows and trim. I painted my old front door with the yellow last night with the sample. Well, not the whole thing, but a good portion so I could see the effect. I like it. I'd pick a taupe or cream with a yellow undertone to pull along with the door, not a pink one. The tone is fine but the undertone is what looks odd to me. I looked long and hard at my paper samples and the actual paint on my house last night (I used up the sample jars so a fair area) and I do see now what you are seeing. And now I am having an anxiety attack about the color. Please tell me it will be ok. Or like Dh says it is just paint....except yes I know it is just paint, but it cost like $700 so I want it to be right. Btw, the workers have done a fantastic job. The undertone thing is purely my artistic preference and there is a reason the pros paired those colors together - trust that they know what is popular and appealing. Sure it's "just paint" but it's a darn lot of it, and what looks amazing in our heads based off of a sample suddenly feels scary when we realize that the entire house is the canvas!! It's not like an accent wall you can re-do in a day, it's a BIG DANG DEAL! So allow yourself some room for those anxious feelings. It may even still feel scary at first glance once the paint is actually up. But once it's done, you'll likely take a step back and pat yourself on the back for your amazing taste. Scarlett Posted September 22, 2017 Author Share Posted September 22, 2017 So today is the end of two weeks since the workers began. They are 99% done. I paid them in full yesterday. They are back today finishing up a little caulking and the sheetrock guy still has an hour or so of inside work finishing out new windows. It has been very successful. They are rough characters but do excellent quality work that has pleased my perfectionist husband. They are leaving their scaffolding for Dh to use so he can paint without a ladder. Dh told them he will give them a 30 pack for that favor...the guy said, 'make it 25 because I owe you 5 beers'. Yes, apparently one afternoon when dss16 was here with them they came in for water.....why didn't they have their own water? But anyway he couldn't figure out my water in the door ice/water so they took beer from our refrigerator instead. I am strangely unfazed by such shockingly unprofessional behavior. LOL. I am more annoyed by the constant smoking ( not inside) and leaving cigarette butts everywhere in my yard. But overall it has turned out great. I am going out of town tomorrow.....Dh will be painting while I am gone. He told me 'prepare to be amazed'. :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
