Recording class lecture?

Apparently no computers/iPads are allowed in the class.

It's a super important class and not sure I trust her with phone not to die or malfunction.

A phone is no more likely to die or malfunction than any other device.

And she would also be taking notes, so the recording would be only a backup. Does she really expect she is going to listen to the lecture recording after listening to the actual lecture?

She should ask the professor what devices are allowed. Depending on his specific reasons for not allowing computers, he may not allow a phone either, since that has pretty much the same capabilities as a computer

Slightly off-topic...

Many moons ago when I was teaching at our local CC, I had a student who recorded my lectures. She did listen back to them for the purpose of filling in items in he notes that she might have missed. She also informed me that I always put her dog right to sleep!

Recordings (particularly of Humanties and Social Sciences) are great if you have a long commute.  You can listen again on the ride home, or review the last lecture on the ride to class.  Ds and I listened to some of his lectures going back and forth to dual enrollment (where the drive each way was about one lecture in length.)  Even in a math class like statistics, you miss some of the concepts while you are trying to scribble down the equations, an auditory learner can catch more in a second listen.
