Halcyon
I am looking for movies or documentaries about WW1 that would be suitable for a 7th grader. Thank you.

Ellie
Sgt. York. It has a strong Christian message, but it's a true story, so there you go. :-)
Sebastian (a lady)
Flyboys might suit. It is the story of several flyers in the Layfayette Escadrille. It is quite accurate, though some characters are composite. It is heroic, tragic and sweet. The Red Baron is very good. The Lighthorsemen is my number one favorite, but there isn't a reliable source for dvd versions. Beneath Hill 40 is another Australian movie. Well done. I didn't know how it would end until right at the end. The Lost Battalion. Joyeux Noel is about the Christmas Truce. There are two versions of All Quiet on the Western Front. Some of these have sex. Most have crass scenes at the front. All are quite moving and sad. The one we ended up not watching is Warhorse. Dh did his MA on WWI and found Warhorse overly maudlin and historically inaccurate. He skimmed it and sent it back to Netflix.
mommymilkies
I will be forever sad that my favorite movie: A Very Long Engagement, is not child friendly. Le sigh. Just reading for suggestions. :)
Farrar
Young Indiana Jones along with its documentaries. These are on Netflix. They're freaking amazing. The history crammed in there is very detailed and in depth. Note that there are many references to s*x on the show and a few shadowy vague scenes in bed. I didn't have an issue with it for my boys, but others might. Seconding War Horse.
Pen
Galipoli both the drama by Weir and also there are documentaries about it we found on Netflix. Violent, but that is the way WW1 was.
hornblower
Billy Bishop Goes to War It's essentially a one man play about Cdn flying ace Billy Bishop You can occasionally still find a recording of the 1982 version but the 2011 is much more readily available. Same actor, still brilliant. The African Queen Lawrence of Arabia
