Guest UrbanRuralMomma
I posted a while back when i was looking for a science curriculum. I'm very picky about science since there are certain decisions that are made when deciding how to cover certain topics. Because I've been bitten before - on how a curriculum publish decided how to handle certain topics - I want to decide how biblical subjects are covered in science, I want a secular science. Science Fusion - by Saxon - fits the bill! And the homeschool buyers co-op has it on sale! Thought I'd share since it's a really great deal. https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/sciencefusion/?source=75956
Teresa in MO
could you explain the program a little bit to me. Is there a textbook? What components are online?
AimeeM
I'm interested too, but I'll admit that the site description confuses me a bit. To answer the PP, I did see in the description that this includes a student worktext (write in textbook). To the OP (maybe you can clarify?) - I noticed that middle grades are offered in modules and it says that 3 or 4 modules can be completed every year. Is this the price per module ($40 or $50? I couldn't tell)? Also, does the online component offer interactive labs online, or would I still need to purchase separate lab materials? Satori
Thanks PlumCrazy for that detailed summary of links on Science Fusion! My first visit back to this board in a long time and I'm already lusting after a new curriculum, doh! Watching that 27 minute video now. :)
AngelBee
Price? Don't want to bother with video until I know. ;)

AimeeM
It looks like the middle school modules are $36 a pop; you would need (they estimate) 3 or 4 modules for a full year of instruction (the elementary grades are different though, and I didn't look at those prices, fyi). farmgal
Oh geez! I made it thru without buying the last time it was offered. Uggghh! So, I'll spend the rest of the night second guessing myself and come back tomorrow to see what else has been said.
Guest UrbanRuralMomma
Price? Don't want to bother with video until I know. ;) The normal price for most grades is $150 per student/per year. That's high for us considering AOP is closer to $60. However, with the homeschool buyers co-op, that can get down to $90. That's still higher, but with everything you get with it, we plan to jump on it. PlumCrazy did a really nice job of laying out the program. It may be worth noting that the worktext functions as both a workbook and a textbook - ie. it's a consumable. Still, I'm okay with that cuz it looks really good. https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/sciencefusion/?source=75956
SS in MD
I just saw Sci Fusion on Rainbow Resource and that led me to checking post on WTM forums. It looks really promising! My visual learner might really do well with it. I was wondering, I have two younger dc (8 yo & 11 yo - 3rd & 5th), I was thinking of getting Grade 4 Science Fusion for both dc (save $$). How do I order two textbooks/workbooks? HSBC only allows pkg purchase - I can't buy a second text. Anyone know how to do this? (Btw, on RR website it's the same, you can only purchase by pkg) Thanks for your help!
HootyTooty
I have been using this program since the last time the coop offered it. My son loves the program. We are using the middle school science. He prefers having his lessons from the book and then doing everything else online. I will say if you go the textbook route and you are used to doing science 2x per week. You might want to rethink how you do science. In my opinion if you are planning on doing 3-4 modules/year it might be very overwhelming using the textbook 2x/week. I've lurking on this thread and was wondering how often this curriculum should be used per week. How often does does your son do lessons -- everyday? Should the textbook portion be spread out? HootyTooty
If you scroll up to PlumCrazy's post above there is a suggested sequence the publisher suggests for each module. We did a test run this summer with the science technology module and found at minimum we had to do science more than 2 days a week to actual retain information. Spetzi
https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/sciencefusion/?c=1 Right now the K-5 grades are nearly at $112.50 for the year.
