Guest Carmie
I'm thinking of taking my 12 yod to see Slumdog Millionaire but I'm not sure if it would be appropriate since I haven't seen it yet. Any opinions out there? Thanks in advance! BTW I think it's rated 14A
Marylou
www.pluggedinonline.com is where you'll find a review. I would not take my child to a movie I haven't seen.
Haiku
I saw it one Saturday night. I don't think it's appropriate for my 14 year old, so I would say that it's not appropriate for a 12 year old. You know your child best, but there are strong themes of abuse, there is violence and implied rape, and it's just an adult movie. Matryoshka
I loved the movie, but heck, no! There are scenes of torture, the kid's mother is beaten and then drowned in a riot, and a kid's eyes are burnt out with hot pokers, among other things. KristineinKS
I guess I must be more liberal, but two of my boys watched the movie with us & really enjoyed it. Yes the story is very gritty & raw, but personally I thought it was mild compare to many other "R" rated movies.
happymainemom
There is a site I go to that will give you a detailed overview of the questionable/appropriate/inappropriate content so that you can make the best choice for your family. The site does contain CC. :-) Slumdog Millionaire
Shasta Mom
Well, I'm quite liberal and loved the movie. However, for my almost 10 yo ds, I wouldn't want him to watch it. I think I would have liked him to see it if some of the disturbing scenes were eliminated. It's a good education about life in the slums, and makes one realize how comparatively lucky we are. I guess as I get older, I get more frustrated with disturbing visual (and audio!) images. I don't know what age I would let him watch it. He's not really very sensitive to this kind of stuff, but when I am still cringing at some of the scenes, I don't want those lingering in his head. Margaret in GA
I'd see it myself first, because it really depends on the kid. It is violent, and the violence is realistic. My 12 yo could handle it, but I'm not sure he needs to if you know what I mean. Margaret
JFSinIL
Oh, great. I was looking forward to seeing it, but I can not take violence and now think I have to wait until it is out on DVD so I can leave the room during the bad bits.
