Julpost
I usually keep mine in the fridge but discovered that a jar accidentally got put away in the cupboard. I ate some and gave some to my 3 yo and 1 yo...then I noticed the "refrigerate after opening" on the jar. Should I keep the rest of it or throw it out? Jumping In Puddles
I would eat it. The oils in the peanuts go rancid more quickly if the jar is not refrigerated. If it is not rancid yet, eat it!
Haiku
We never refrigerate our peanut butter. We go through a jar in about 5 days. Tara
jacqui in mo
On natural PB, I think the refrigeration part is to keep the oils from separating again. Yes the oil may become rancid over time, but not that quickly with PB.

I ate some and gave some to my 3 yo and 1 yo...then I noticed the "refrigerate after opening" on the jar. Should I keep the rest of it or throw it out? It's probably fine. I would smell it first- my nose is very sensitive to rancid oils. I could not eat it if it were rancid.
abreakfromlife
it just depends on how long it was in there. If it was just a couple of days, I'd eat it. It's too expensive to waste if it smells fine :D
Snickerdoodle
I never have refrigerated pb. We buy the one with peanuts and salt and no other ingredients. When we lived abroad we bought the one with organic peanuts and no other ingredients. I didn't know people put pb in the fridge.

We leave ours out on the counter, too, because it's hard to spread when it's cold and tears the bread (and I buy the organic).
