ktgrok
My DD13 is being confirmed a week from today and I still don't have a gift. We attend a very progressive church, she identifies as non hetero, and is not into girly things like make up or dresses or jewelry for the most part. Any thoughts? Especially if I can get delivered within a week, lol? Update: I am going to order: -An affordable but nice bible - the NRSV-UE edition, which would be good to have on hand and our church recommends. I found one with a "presentation page" in it where I can write a note or have our minister do so. But it isn't engraved or fancy where she will feel badly replacing it. - A leather cover for it, or that she can use for anything else, including a sketchbook, if she so chooses. It's a soft, real leather cover, with a leather strap/tie. Very old fashioned looking, which she will like a lot. - the My Saint, My Hero confirmation bracelet. It comes with a nice card with a message about serving God and isn't too "girly" for her. Thank you, @Murphy101 for the idea for a saint's medal gift!!! I also got her a funny shirt, that isn't a serious gift but she will like. Edited April 30, 2023 by ktgrok

forty-two
Still kinda traditional, but not girly: we usually do a leather-bound study bible or prayer book.
knitgrl
There are many, many varieties of Bible to choose from. Coupled with a journal, maybe?
ktgrok
If anyone has a link to a neat Bible for an artistic person, that might be good. Edited April 30, 2023 by ktgrok
ktgrok
I was leaning away from a nice Bible, just because my parents got me one - a leather KJV with my name engraved on it, and due to changing what version I read more than once, it having my marriage to my first husband recorded in it, the paper being super thin and easy to tear, etc etc it just sits on a shelf and always has. But, maybe a nice Bible cover? So she can put the bible of her choosing in it? She likes things you can put things in...hmm.

prairiewindmomma
What would feel most affirming to them as a person? If confirmation is about embracing a relationship with a Heavenly Father, what can you as an earthly parent do to help them feel loved and cherished? Fwiw, there are Bible art journals out there. https://www.amazon.com/Illuminated-Bible-Journaling-Cloth-Board/dp/1433558319/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=bible+art+journal&qid=1682882934&sr=8-1 https://www.amazon.com/Enough-Bible-Coloring-Prayer-Journal/dp/0998384666/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=bible+art+journal&qid=1682883016&sr=8-

What you are describing is called a journaling Bible. No idea which ones are good or not. But I’ve seen them around. I don’t know what progressive is supposed to mean or why sexuality comes into it. So I’m just going to say what I gift that was enjoyed and leave it to you to decide if any of it might appeal to her. It’s jewelry but not girly showy jewelry. I ordered a custom saint medal on a leather band type necklace for my husband bc his confirmation saint is not one normally found. He loves it and gets comments on it from everyone, male or female. You can get it engraved however you want. https://sacredmedals.com A crucifix or holy water font for their room in a style they like. handmade beeswax candles, candle holder and snuffer with tray for personal prayers. If they are artsy, maybe just the candle kit to make their own. This kit makes at least a years worth of tapered candles for our family’s daily prayers. Make Your Own Beeswax Candle Kit... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Q07P4E?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Snuffer Kirecoo Candle Snuffer, Candle... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NBBTHQ1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I bought this tray for the snuffer to rest in so wax doesn’t end up everywhere. Aneco Stainless Steel Towel Tray... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K2S324B?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Be sure to get the candles blessed too. many fancy single tapered candle stick holder will do. If there’s a special saint or devotion or book you have felt important in your life or whatever to YOU, then I would maybe gift that or something related to that. Thank you, I guess I was trying to say the typical "A girl's devotional Bible" in flowers and pink, or sparkly jewlry, etc were not what she'd like or want. Nor some kind of conservative teen guide to life, if that makes sense? These are beautiful ideas, thank you!

Drama Llama
For us, confirmation was a time for really think about, "How will this young person use the gifts God gave him as a Christian adult?" And then he got gifts that fit with that. So, my older kid got biographies of people who demonstrated positive characteristics we see in him, and entry fees into some races for charity, and sheet music for religious music. For my younger kid, I'm planning to get him a set of adult sized tools (right now he has real tools, but they were bought when his hands were small), and pay for the food for him to make a meal for the homeless shelter. That kind of thing.
