AP Statistics

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a good source for a self paced online AP Stats class that a self starter could do over the summer? He's mathy and I heard that AP Stats is pretty easy so I'm hoping he could finish it quickly. We thought he would do Edhesive but they're no longer offering stats. Apex is one option, but it's expensive. If we can't find a self paced class for the summer, he'll wait until senior year and do it with PA Homeschoolers. Just thought you all might have a different option that we haven't considered.

Just wanted to put it out there that Edhesive does indeed still offer AP Stats, but it sounds like the registration is just a bit different now. I emailed them about AP CSA for my younger son, and this was their reply regarding courses available:

Thanks for reaching out, and for your interest in Edhesive.

We offer Intro to CS, AP CSA, AP CS Principles, and AP Statistics courses to homeschool students. The courses are available on a typical school year schedule - so courses open to students in mid August, and must be completed by June 30. The course materials are all delivered online, and the courses are self-paced. We have a forum where all students can connect with other students and our team of TAs to help them if they get stuck in their assignments.

We are currently in the process of updating enrollment procedures and pricing for the 2021-22 school year. If you are interested in enrolling a student for next year, please reach out in early June, when we should have updated information available

***************

I got this email in response to my inquiry on May 3, so pretty recent. Just an FYI

ALEKS has it.

If you wanted a teacher, UC Scout has it, but it's also pricey. This isn't necessarily one I'd feel I needed an outside teacher for at that price.

You know, @NittanyJen is teaching it at PAH in the fall. But obviously that's not what you're looking for. But tagging her in case she has thoughts of summer resources.

Three weeks ago we registered and paid but never received the course info or links to start. I emailed them a few times over the last week to follow up and see what happened. No response.  Then three days ago, they emailed me to say they were no longer offering AP Stats and a refund was being issued. So maybe they just decided? Not sure, but they have us scrambling now.

Here's the text of their email:

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Unfortunately, Edhesive will not be offering AP Statistics next year. A refund was initiated, and will appear in 5-10 business days.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we wish you all the best.

Best,
Samantha

He doesn't have time for a full year class. He wants to self study so maybe we'll try that. He's in Calc BC now and thinks Stats will be easy. I wonder if we could hire NittanyJen to help with exam prep and tutor if he gets stuck? I'll wait to see if she responds. If not, I'll email her. I'll look at ALEKS too. Thanks!

We'll be using Chalk Dust Statistics, taught by Dana Mosely, which includes text, solutions manual, and DVDs: https://www.chalkdust.com/stats.html

Another similar option is Cool Math Guy also taught by Dana Mosely, which are the same courses but online only without text, solutions manual, and DVDs option, so no resale value: https://coolmathguy.com/about-dana-mosely

Perhaps you could create and submit a syllabus to the College Board for an AP Course Audit?                          https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/ap-course-audit                                                                             https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/ap-course-audit/faqs/submit-syllabus-for-approval                                                 https://blog.prepscholar.com/ap-course-audit

Maybe someone who knows more about how to do that can chime in?

Wow, that's too bad.  It was a solid course.  Dd took it, more or less started the class in March and by May she earned a 5.

He’s done almost all of his math with Chalkdust. We know Dana well. I’ll show this to him. Thank you!
