Familia
We are thinking of venturing to the mountains. We could simply relax in our cabin and take some hikes, but we are wondering about other things of interest. Cades Cove drive is such a crowded drive usually - how is the traffic now? We imagine that other venues will be closed, limited, or of no interest to us right now, but still wondering what is the current status of the place. Thanks! school17777
We were supposed to head there two weeks from tomorrow, but cancelled our plans after a Covid exposure. The stress was too much for me - not knowing if anyone of us were going to get sick (so far, seems not). When I was planning our vacation, everything that we wanted to do, seemed to be open.
MorningGlory
My sister and family just returned from the Smokies. She said she has never seen it so crowded. They were not able to do several hikes they were interested in because of the crowds (and these were "moderate" level hikes---not the ones like Laurel Falls that always attract so many). She said Gatlinburg was unbelievable...her exact quote was that there were 20 million people there.
Familia
Goodness, that is a mess waiting to happen! I think that relaxing in our cabin, playing games & enjoying the view seem like the best course of action. I am sorry about your cancelled trip @school17777 Edited July 6, 2020 by Familia
SanDiegoMom
I had a friend go a month or so ago and it was crowded then -and they were the only ones wearing a mask too.
Nicholas_mom
We went this past week to Asheville, NC and visited the Smokeys. It is very crowded! We drove through Gaitlinburg, TN to get to Grotto Hike. It was crazy crowded and no one was wearing a mask. Ok maybe 2 people. Luckily we were driving through the town. We did our hike at 5pm and we were the last people going up the trail. So we mostly saw people coming down the trail and were able to see the Falls ourselves. To us, the Blue Ridge trails were less people. We stayed away from popular hikes. We actually had a private tour of PARI, the radio telescope.
teachermom2834
I know they now have a mask mandate in Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. I don’t think that is something they would have done lightly. They have had increasing cases and low social distancing/ masking as far as I have read.
