Laura K (NC)
"I am appalled, even horrified, that you have adopted classics as a major. As a matter of fact, I almost puked on my way home today..." http://www.lgassoc.com/library/articles/49-AUTUMN93.pdf (hat tip to Michael Gilleland, of the blog Laudator Temporis Acti)
Jean in Newcastle
His dad sounds like a "peach". :glare: (is there a dripping sarcasm smilie?)
elegantlion
:lol::lol: Funny, he read the classics and then came to the conclusion it was unnecessary to do so. Somehow that doesn't sound logical to me, but what do I know I'm trying to educate my son into "a snob". :tongue_smilie::tongue_smilie:
readwithem
The apple (or peach as Jean said - as long as it's a Georgia one:) doesn't fall far from the tree. What a sad man. Edited November 22, 2008 by readwithem
Aggie
"In the hands of the Philistines...." Aren't Philistines known for being hostile to culture and arts? I doubt anyone would call Brown hostile to arts now! In Ed's defense, though, his generation was very practical. I see how he had a difficult time justifying such a degree given his profession and his age.
C_l_e_0..Q_c
That was a fun read! He could write more than my grandpa. My uncles were all educated at boarding schools, only coming home for Christmas and Easter and summer vacation. They missed their parents dearly. Yet, my granddad once sent a Christmas gift (a winter hat) and the note said "your hat, your dad" That was it!:lol:
