Monica_in_Switzerland
Title pretty much says it all. I want a program that will: - introduce artists - introduce art theory (color, line, blah, blah, blah) - Have a nice looking project or two at the end Ideally low prep for a mom who says *yawn* to art on a good day and runs screaming from it on a bad day. Anything else out I should be looking at?
HomeAgain
We used Meet The Masters, but we've switched over to Artistic Pursuits and enjoy it more. Rainbow Resource even sells kits if you don't want to gather materials on your own.
nixpix5
Well Meet the Masters won't be low prep but it is great. You will print a script and read it along with a power point about the given author. Then you will have a page or two of technique teaching exercises that you go through with the student. Lastly, you have the final project that you walk them through. It is all scripted for you but it is parent/ teacher necessary. Kind of like rightstart math for art. We love it and use it but it isn't for everyone. If you want a more hands off art approach then Creating a Masterpiece is pretty incredible. A bit spendy but the projects are impressive. Video based and streamed from an online subscription. Home Art Studio is also video based and really hands off. When my kids do this one I put the supplies on the table, put the dvd in and go off to do housework. We also have used "The Fundamentals of Beginning Drawing" dvd series by Stebbing. My kids really REALLY enjoy this one.
Momto6inIN
Another vote for Artistic Pursuits! Easy to implement, some art appreciation, and real instruction, not just crafts. Sent from my Z988 using Tapatalk
Miss Tick
MtM's script made me crazy, and I got frustrated that the projects were not very closely related to the artists. I just gave up directed art for a while after that.
Lucy the Valiant
One of my kids did Meet the Masters for 3 years in a row at a local co-op with a fantastic & enthusiastic teacher, and YEARS later has retained the info about the artists and a general enthusiasm for art museums and instruction. $ .02
