SunshineMom
My dd (9th grade) is taking Spanish 3 at our local high school but we found out they don’t offer Spanish 4. Could a semester (Fall) of Spanish 1 at the local community college next year count as high school Spanish 4? Thanks.
freesia
No, Spanish 1 at CC would equal Spanish 1 at highschool. You could see if the CC would give her a placement test to see where she falls in their sequence and have her do that class. Homeschool Spanish Academy offers Spanish 4.
Kassia
No - Spanish 1 at the community college would only cover high school Spanish 1 and 2 at the most.
Matryoshka
Usually, 1 semester college Spanish = 1 year high school Spanish, so in theory she should be ready for Spanish 4 (4th semester Spanish) at a CC. As others have said, they likely have a placement test.
SunshineMom
Thank you ladies for clearing this up for me! I'll look into the placement assessment at the end of this school year.
klmama
Don't be too surprised if she tests into 3rd semester Spanish at the college or even 2nd semester. There is significantly more vocabulary in college-level texts, and the grammar is often covered in more depth.
SunshineMom
I suspect she’ll place at level 3 which is fine. She’d earn 5 college credits and it’s cheaper than paying for other programs. We’ll see how it all works.
