Guinevere
If you see one black widow, are there others likely nearby? I killed one at a playground today, and was just wondering if I should say something? Edited June 14, 2017 by Guinevere
Tangerine
I really was hoping I could answer this "when they're between husbands," but then it was about spiders.

Guinevere
Nevermind. I couldn't think of the word "solitary" earlier, but I figured it out. They are solitary, except for mating season, and when their babies hatch.
OlgaLA
Whenever I found one, there were others nearby. Might be my luck, but I would be very careful.
ealp2009
I have only ever seen one, but I think at a playground I would try and let someone know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Robin M
Where there is one, you'll find more. Hubby does a evening hunt every three weeks or so during the summer and usually finds five or six at a time outside the house. So yes, you should tell them so they can spray the area where you found it. Edited June 14, 2017 by Robin M
Monica_in_Switzerland
They are not social, but they tend to congregate in any good habitat. So in one wood pile, you might find dozens. Ugh, ugh, ugh!
MistyMountain
They like dark damp places so you might find some nearby in the right type of environment but they are solitary. I would see a bunch watering when there were covered pipes in the ground for watering. I could tell before I even saw one by the type of web in the hole and once I watered they would come up. Guinevere
Thank you! I told my husband, and he immediately said, "Where there's one, there's more." I'll say something, thank you.
Ravin
They are solitary, but their territories aren't very large in human terms, so where there's one there could be more nearby. I'd let someone know.
