Twinmom
This has been verified by Snopes. Kind of scary! You may want to go through the Halloween candy before your kids eat it this year. http://www.snopes. com/food/ warnings/ coins.asp PLEASE READ THIS AND FORWARD TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW WITH KIDS TRICK OR TREATING FOR HALLOWEEN. With Halloween fast approaching comes a warning to parents and kids regarding Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold milk chocolate coins imported from China . The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to eat, distribute or sell the candy. It is sold across Canada by Costco and may also have been sold in bulk packages or as individual pieces at various dollar and bulk stores. The chocolate contains melamine which is the same chemical responsible for killing several babies in China, and sickening thousands more. 1bassoon
If you read the snopes article - it does say that none of these were sold in the U.S., only in Canada.
Twinmom
Yep, I read that. Hopefully, none of them will make it to the U.S...anything is possible. However, we do have folks on the board here in Canada, so I thought it would be worth posting for all.
Parrothead
Thanks for the link and info. I'm 15 miles from Canada and a lot of people in town go up there to shop. I'll look out for it in the bag this year.

lamarley
This was back in 2008, though. This candy wouldn't still be around in stores, would it?
Parrothead
Wow this thread is old. Does the warning even apply anymore?

KidsHappen
It is possible that this candy could still pose a problem. I know that many years ago these was a problem with a children's vitamin that as far as I know still hasn't been resolved even though the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. IMO, it is better to be safe than sorry with something like this.
