Swelling in right lower leg, ankle and foot?

Recommended Posts

This just came on yesterday. It hasn't gone away today. Can sugar cause this? And on that note, can anybody tell me how to overcome being in a "bad eating" rut? (for a long time, no less) If something sweet or junky is in the house, I eat it and too much of it! I'm honestly concerned because I'm feeling out of control and like I can't get control back. :banghead: This goes on day after day. Anybody have experience with this and have advice? I need to break this cycle. Can anybody give me a kick in the pants? Go for it!

this happened when I was pregnant and since then my right leg has been a little larger, not much, than my left. BTW, my dd is 5, so it's not from being pregnant recently and my period just finished so it's not related to that.

It could be vascular. Pregnancy can be obnoxious to the veins. Just a guess.

Would I see a specialist and which kind, or just general prac.? Thanks for responding to me.

I would think a general could definitely take a look at that and decide if that's the issue and if you need a specialist. But that's my very uneducated opinion. :001_smile:

Another suggestion is to cut out excessive salt and potassium. I thought I was doing good to switch to potato chips with lots more potassium, but I got swelling in my lower legs. Also, when I use ibuprofen or naproxen sodium for general aches and pains, I get swelling in my feet and lower legs.

You mentioned bad diet, and I will tell you, it took me about ten years to get off caffeine sodas. I tried every kind of rationale I could think of. Now it is chocolate and potato chips. Still struggling. I have thought of going to Overeater's Anonymous. It is like A.A. Just an idea.

You need to let your doctor check it and maybe do an ultrasound of the leg. I'm not an alarmist. My husband is more laid back, so when his lower leg swelled a little he took a long time to get it checked. It wasn't red or warm. When he finally got to the Dr. an ultrasound was ordered just to be sure, but the doctor thought it was muscle related. Turned out to be a blood clot, which has since been treated.

I didn't write that to scare you, I'll but yours isn't a clot but it's always better just to check. You could just start with your regular doctor to rule things out.

:iagree:Go get it checked. You need an ultrasound, especially if it just one leg and not both.

:iagree:Someone else who thinks this is a possibility and doesn't want to scare you. Have you been traveling recently? Or sitting still for long periods of time? My sister's DH had 2 in one leg after an 8 hour drive. His family has a history of "bad veins" but he never thought that the swelling was because of a blod clot.

it has gone down. I'm still planning to mention it when I have my physical since it's slightly larger all the time anyway. Maybe it was food related. I have had a lot of sugar and bread lately, more than usual. I'll mention an ultrasound since it swells often. Thanks again.

It makes no sense at all that sugar would affect only one side. Go get it checked. At least call your doctor about it.

:iagree:

The one side thing was why I asked about swelling, redness and tenderness. It doesn't have to be DVT..it could be a superficial blood clot too.

Did I read that right? You'll get it checked "when you have your next physical" ????? :glare: Can't you at least call? My dd's leg that used to have the clot is "slightly larger" than the other too. They told him it will stay that way even though the clot was dissolved with medicine.
