goldberry
I picked up some of the Costco pulled pork about a week ago. I've had it in the fridge, unopened. I pulled it out to see if it was still good. It says Use/Freeze by Mar 2017. Okay, what???? This is meat! How on the green earth can pulled pork be good in the fridge for three months??? Can someone explain this to me?
theelfqueen
It's smoked meat. Smoking is a preservation method. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
goldberry
Smoking makes it last three months at fridge temperatures? Wow. Seriously, all you Costco fanatics made me give this a try... I'm afraid now!
The Girls' Mom
The packaging makes a huge difference too. Hermetically sealed packaging can be about as good as canning. Canned meat can last for ages. I wouldn't open it, THEN wait until March to eat it, but as long as it was sealed and properly stored, that date actually makes sense.
theelfqueen
Yup...smoking plus sealing plus refrigerator... good preservation. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Forget-Me-Not
Yes, once it's open, I'd give it about a week max, but unopened, yeah it stays good for a long time. Their carnitas are the same way (and awesome).
SparklyUnicorn
Doesn't sound crazy to me. Ever look at the expiration date on stuff like kielbasa or hams? Same deal.
