TravelingChris
I know some families do this so that isn't the surprise. The surprise is I didn't go into the kitchen for a few hours and just went in there and found my son in law carving up a ham that I didn't know we even had. The turkey is in the oven now.
TravelingChris
Oh and we don't have that many people here. Just seven of us so there will be so many leftovers since this is a really large ham, bigger than any I have ever bought for my own family that had leftovers afterwards anyway. Halftime Hope
Mmmm!! Ham and pea soup; scalloped potatoes and ham, etc. :-) Aside from the surprise, and hopefully that it won't throw your cooking schedule off, it's all good, right?

SparklyUnicorn
Yum... I'm anxiously awaiting the food to be done. Mostly waiting on the turkey at this point.
Guest
Our paternal family's thanksgiving was always really big - at least 25-30 people. My aunt always did a ham with pineapple sauce in addition to grandma's turkey because it was her husband's favorite and we weren't so pressed for meat with two different types. I'm so sad, one of my allergies is to ham/pork now. All sausage and honey baked ham is out :(. It's been almost two years but I still miss them! Peaceful Isle
We are having ham and turkey as well, for just the seven of us. Plenty of leftovers.

I developed a pork allergy 6 years ago. Over the last year I've been able to eat small amounts of pork {small serving size} without setting off my GI reaction to pork! So glad as I really missed bacon.

Ironically I can handle itsy bitsy amounts of bacon and not much else, probably because the actual protein content is so much lower compared to the fat. But cured pork or things like pork shoulder are just terrible :(. No salami either!
TravelingChris
I am so sorry Arctic Mom. I love pork.

Debbi in Texas
Dh is not fond of turkey, so I cooked a hen for the chicken and dressing. We also had a ham, so plenty of meat. There were only the three of us at our Thanksgiving table. But hey, we love the leftovers.
