s/o clothesline 101

So reading through the clothesline thread has me reevaluating my laundry situation, and wanting a clothesline. I live in a dry area of the country, lots of hot summer days, no HOA, and we have no allergies. I think I'm a good candidate!

Looking at my yard, I feel like my best location would be on my deck, with a retractable line that would be mounted on brick on either side, about 20 feet long.

Any recommendations in a brick-mounted retractable line that would be strong? Waterproof - won't rust in the weather? The retractable ones seem less sturdy than the permanent ones. Links would be awesome!

Chalk this up to another way I've changed my life thanks to the Hive!

also consider the optimum methods for hanging clothes.

Here are some options. I think the affixing it to masonry part is partly just knowing what tools and anchors to use. Find a handyman who has experience.

That first one looks perfect - and very reasonably priced. Thank you so much!

We have done both a retractable and a wall mounted fold-down line in different houses. I think the fold down is more stable, but the retractable may look neater, and probably offer more line space. Both held up for years with no rusting etc. (we moved - the lines were still fine). The fold-down does need to be oiled or it gets difficult to 'slide'.

We have a single line like the first link. It was here when we moved in.

The photo in the link isn't correct...when you pull out the line you connect it to the other end...then back at the spool you get some slack and wrap it around that little slotted part and then tighten. If done like the photo the weight of the clothes would pull out more line and the clothes would fall on the ground.

It's less confusing than I make it sound.

Welcome to the club!
