MrsWeasley
My nine year old is a huge Rick Riordan fan. (I'm less of a fan and wouldn't mind something a little more toned down on the teen issues.) I wondered if there were any fantasy novels similar to that but based in Irish mythology?
Tanaqui
Hm. One of the Young Wizards books - A Wizard Abroad - has a connection to Irish mythology, but you really need to read the preceding books, which don't. I know that the Chronicles of Prydain are based on Welsh mythology, as is The Owl Service, but of course Wales and Ireland are certainly not interchangeable!

Corraleno
Michael Scott, author of the Nicholas Flamel series, has an older trilogy called The De Danann Tales that involves modern teens traveling back in time to the Celtic world. They're out of print and a bit hard to find, but your library may have some. My son read them several years ago and liked them.
TrixieB
If it doesn't have to be Irish specifically... but could be Celtic... A String in the Harp (Welsh) The Dark is Rising quintet (Celtic) The Return of the Dragon by Jane Zaring (Celtic)
theelfqueen
Not novels but have you seen the films Song of the Sea and Secret of the Kells (both available on Amazon Prime) ... I'd have to think to pick something more kid friendly. I think Morgan Llewellyn has some more young adult friendly novels but I don't know if they'd be 9 year old friendly. Anne McCaffrey is best known for her Sci-Fan Dragonriders books, but I know Black Horses for the King (Arthurian) is a good choice. MrsWeasley
We love both of those movies, as well as The Secret of Rowan Inish.
Bluegoat
You could look at the series with The Hunter's Moon. It might be slightly old, though. But The Dark Is Rising would be right on and IMO is far better than Riordan's stuff.
