Hot Lava Mama
Ds read Napoleon's buttons and loved it. He loved the history part and how it related to chemistry. I saw Disappearing Spoon as another chemistry book. Anything else? Thanks Hot Lava Mama
klmama
Maybe the Flavia de Luce mysteries by Alan Bradley? They are a bit dark at times and include some foul language and adult relationships, but chemistry is definitely a recurring theme.
anne1456
My son enjoyed The Alchemy of Air, about the scientists who perfect the Haber process to extract nitrogen from air. It is dark too though, since they ended up making chemical weapons also. It is more of a biography about chemists than a book about chemistry. marbel
I've heard great things about The Joy of Chemistry by Cathy Cobb from others, though my high schooler finds it kind of dull. Your experience may be different! My boy has been enjoying Periodic Tales by Hugh Aldersey-Williams

Hot Lava Mama
Thanks for the suggestions! He is doing a rather hard chemistry course and enjoyed the living book side. I will try those listed. Thanks for the help! :) (My library search engine is terrible! I usually have better luck searching on Amazon, then going to my library to see if they have those books. The problem is I don't know what phrase to use because "chemistry" just brings up chemistry text books.) Hot Lava Mama
quark
DS loved John Emsley's and Robert Wolke's books. And of course, Theodore Gray. And he could watch these periodic table videos from Nottingham U forever if I let him.
Erica in OR
If you're on Pinterest, consider taking a look at this board on the American Chemical Society's ChemClub's account: https://www.pinterest.com/acschemclubs/books-to-read/ Erica in OR
JoanHomeEd
I second John Emsley's The 13th Element: The Sordid Tale of Murder, Fire, and Phosphorus. If the library doesn't have it, dealoz.com might have the place for an inexpensive copy http://www.dealoz.com/prod?gtin=09780471441496&query=&op=&op2=buy
