ProudGrandma
Just curious, how long do you think it is ok for meat to be frozen in the freezer?? After how long do you toss if not used??
SparklyUnicorn
I don't know. I usually go by looks. If it is all freezer burned and sad looking I throw it out. I'm not that organized.
Carrie12345
How much of a foodie are you? Time and freezer burn will affect taste, texture, and some nutritional value. But it probably won't kill you.
SparklyUnicorn
And it really depends on what it is. No I don't want freezer burned boneless skinless chicken breast because that stuff already needs too much help to taste good. But something like ground meat that I could use for tacos is not as much of a problem.
SparklyUnicorn
Although a good use for "on its way out" is throw it in soup.
kiana
If it's been frozen solid it's usually fine. If it's freezer burned soup or stew. I don't think I ever toss it unless it's somehow thawed out.
lanabug
I have 2 year old beef in my deep freeze that tastes and looks fine. It's been frozen since it was butchered, wrapped in freezer paper. No signs of freezer burn yet! Lana
mamiof5
We try to stick to 6 months after the expiration date. Try...probably have done longer than that sometimes and it tastes fine
Serenade
Although a good use for "on its way out" is throw it in soup. Or in something with a sauce. We frequently eat frozen meat that is a year (or more) old. Things just seem to get buried in the freezer!
