chelsmm
I was thinking my kids might ilke the challenge of the MENSA reading list this summer. Is there a time limit for this? I didn't see anywhere on the website where it said it had to be completed within a certain amount of time to get the certificate and shirt. But I don't want to tell my kids they can earn a certificate and shirt if they won't be eligible if they take "too long". I think it will take quite some time at least a year for DS to get through the k-3 list. Thanks, Chelsea
Soapy
I'm fairly certain there's no time limit.
Renai
I think it is a school year list so there is no summer deadline.
Jackie
There is no time limit. It can be started and completed at any time.
strawberryjam
I think the limit is just within the grade level. So the first list is Kindergarten to Grade 3, I'm assuming they expect the list to be finished by the end of Grade 3 for example and not the end of Grade 6. Jackie
They state that there is no restriction by grade level. They encourage parent and child to choose whichever list is the best fit for that child. So the K-3 list could be used equally by a 3 year old or a 13 year old. I love recommending this program to people specifically because it is so open in its rules! Grover
thank you for the reminder... we started tcking these off and then forgot about it. Checking back, DS has two books left to finish his level... library trip!
chelsmm
Great, thanks. My dd is just finishing third grade, and my son is just finishing second. We are going to work through the list this summer. Some of the books will be easy for dd, but enough are long enough that she will be challenged. Ds will get confidence from the picture books, and the longer ones we will listen to or I will read aloud.

Yes, I remember reading that they actually recommend kids going back to finish earlier levels. :)
linders
Okay, I looked at the lists. And I haven't read many of the 7th-8th and 9th-12th books. So now I have a new reading list....
Eagle
For any Canadians out there who are curious, yes they will send your tshirt to Canada! We love the Mensa reading program. Great books!
mohini
This is cool! You can start and finish any time? Is there a fee or something?
Jackie
No cost at all. They'll send you a certificate for each list completed, but you only get the free t-shirt once.
sarahjokim
In case it's helpful to anyone I have the Mensa lists on my site that show how the books overlap with other book lists and curriculum. http://www.wellreadkid.com/mensa-for-kids-excellence-in-reading-grades-k-3/ http://www.wellreadkid.com/mensa-for-kids-excellence-in-reading-grades-4-6/

MistyMountain
Is the program only for MENSA members or can any kid complete the list?

Meriwether
If the kids read the books in their age group before starting the program, can an approximate date (like the year) be written in?
zarabellesmom
From their page: Can I get credit for books I’ve already read? For each list, you may count no more than ten books previously read. The program is designed to encourage youth to read, and if a significant portion of a list has been read previously, you may either re-read the books or choose another list.
