MistyMountain
My ds picked comparing bridge weight load capacities for his science experiment. He has the k'nex bridge set and has no problem building the bridges. I am trying to think of something heavy enough to make the bridges flex or fail to compare 3 different types that is easy to obtain and cheap. Arcadia
Bricks from Home Depot or Lowes. The paver bricks were decently priced. Borrow some dumb bells from friends?
JanetC
Pull slowly with a spring scale (force meter) and see what it's reading right before failure. Bonus: The spring scale will come in handy for other science experiments as well.
cintinative
Do you have metal weights for math scales? Mine go up to 1 lb with smaller weights as well. Otherwise, maybe a can of something heavy like beans?
In The Great White North
https://bridgecontest.org/about/history/ Apparently, the guys who developed the West Point Bridge Contest have retired and founded this non-profit to continue the contest. The software lets kids design and test bridges.
