Visa charge dispute

Have you ever successfully had a visa charge dispute refunded? We hired a car repair shop to replace our fuel injectors per their diagnosis. We gave them a payment of $2000 (on our visa debit card) to begin the work They promised that the car would be completed by Tuesday at lunch. On Thursday, the repairs still weren't finished and they admitted they had no idea what to do. (It's a super complicated Diesel engine)

We had the car towed to another shop and the injectors did not need to be replaced, the work they did was incorrect. We had to spend $1000 at the new shop to repair the original problem and fix the incorrect work.

Do we have any chance of getting the $2000 back from the first shop?

Have you asked the first shop for the money back?  That's a first step in a dispute anyway.  Ask in person and if they say no, send it in writing certified, return receipt.

ETA: Bring the receipt from the second repair shop as proof that you had to pay to repair their shoddy work.

Also NEVER pay for work until it is completed.

No not at all. They say I owe them for parts they replaced ( which weren't needed to begin with).

That's crazy.  This place is shady as heck.  Send a certified letter detailing your complaint.  Anticipate what they will say in their defense (like the above) if the Visa tries to charge them back and then address those arguments right in the letter.  Tell them what you want and when you want it by or you will be disputing the charge and going to social media.  Then keep a copy of the letter and send it return receipt so you can prove they received it.

Thanks Barb.

It's been stressful as heck dealing with these people. To complicate matters, we are from Florida and are on vacation in California, so it's been a mess.

That stinks.  Be sure to put in there something to the effect of, I realize now we shouldn't have paid for the work until it was completed to our satisfaction, but since we paid ahead of time for a specific job to be done, we aren't paying for parts we didn't ask for.  You should have completed the job or refunded our money, not wasted your parts and returned the vehicle to us in inoperable condition while keeping our money.  This is fraud.
