cave canem
Has anyone used clearplay.com? It seems to be a device/service that removes child-unfriendly material from feature films.
Muttichen
We have one. We love it, but even better is buying dvds from http://www.goodmediadvds.net/. Then you can play them in any player.
sassenach
Clearplay is a total winner. You'll have to fuss with it a little to find your family's preferred filter levels, but it really does work as advertised 99.999% of the time. You don't really need to maintain an ingoing subscription. You can occasionally re-up your subscription, download all of the filters and then cancel until you need a new update. We used to have a clearplay player (back in 2006 I think) and didn't like it so much. The movies were jumpy and they weren't filtered as much as we'd like. Have they improved? We got ours in 2008 and it had a ton of filter options. It took us awhile to figure out our family's ideal settings. Once we had those set, everything was great. La Condessa
We used to have one. Great theory, really poor execution on many (but not all) films. We stopped using it and felt it was a waste of money. Later on they contacted us, told us they had fixed the system and would sell us a new machine & subscription at a 10% discount. We passed. Jaz
We love ours! We've had it over 5 years. We also had one before our current model. It didn't work as well, but we still liked it.
FriedClams
I wish we could get a tv guardian for streaming. That's my dream.
earthyfamily
I might have to check out clearplay again. There's so many things I think would be awesome to watch with the kids, but I'm not okay with the language and ummm inappropriate situations that they would see. Two of my kids are older and even though they know about these things, there's no reason to expose them to it on a regular basis...then it just jades it and makes it seem okay. If that makes sense. Thanks!
Jaz
Nicole, I really think it's worth trying again. Our world opened up. We just enjoyed all 8 seasons of the tv show Psych with the kids. :)
Jane Elliot
We've had it for several years and love it. Great customer service. They helped us replace the player several years back when it was skipping, and they've replaced our remote for free. We would really miss Clearplay if we didn't have it.
