Peaceful Isle
The last few days have been so horrible! Such extreme pain in my neck and back. I haven't had it this bad in about a year. What seems to trigger your flares? Anyone one else feeling this way tonight? I guess I am looking for company..seeing I am miserable ;)
Jean in Newcastle
Stress, hormones, overdoing it and getting too tired. :grouphug: You are not alone.
TeacherZee
What Jean said. Right now my hands and feet are medium bad (I can type but it takes me quite some time to get going in the morning)
Joules
Stress, weather (too hot or too cold), a night of poor sleep (which becomes a vicious cycle), an allergy attack (like having to take the dog to the kitty-filled vet), overexertion. Spryte
Adding to the above: a period of poor nutrition can sometimes precede a flare for me. Mostly it's stress, overdoing it, etc, but I think that food plays a role for me as well. Oh, and exposure to environmental stressors - certain cleaning chemicals, mold, a new piece of furniture. VOCs always get me, as I'm a poor detoxer. That triggers hand/foot issues every time.
dancingmama
Stress and driving are my biggest. Lack of sleep can. Overdoing it, especially walking/running. Hope you feel better soon!
ElaineJ
I'm the same as Jean. Any kind of digestive issue also makes all the pain worse. so sorry your having a hard day :grouphug: Elaine
SapphireStitch
Changes in the weather trigger flares for me; I can feel barometric pressure swings, hurricanes at the coast, heat waves, cold snaps...you name it. Let's see, what else: hormones, lack of sleep, travel, stress... I've learned to plan my life around the possibility of flares. For instance, on Sundays I have to get up early and go to church (a couple weeks of the month it's very early because my husband needs to be there to run sound). So getting up early, making myself get ready quicker than usual, riding in the car, interacting with people, walking around the church building, standing up and sitting down, going out to eat, working around son's youth group schedule...all of that simple normal activity adds up to pain. So I always, always plan to have Monday be as much of a recovery day as possible. Something easy to cook, no appointments, give the boy schoolwork he can start without me so I can sleep in, etc. When I type all that I out I realize how far from "normal" this disease has taken me. Bleah...
Jean in Newcastle
Sometimes they just come out of no where with nothing I can identify as a trigger. I differentiate between my daily constant pain (low grade) and a flare. I only very rarely have no pain. I had no pain for about two hours last week and I think that was the first pain vacation I've had in a year or more.
Spryte
Oh! OP, I just thought of this: when I have a flare, my doc always asks me, first - before exploring other options - "What's different in your environment?" Sometimes it's something simple, related to the environmental stuff I posted above - a new cleaning agent, a piece of furniture. Sometimes it's not so simple - we'll have painted or remodeled, or something difficult to manage (those things outgas and always impact my health). A charcoal air filter helps a lot, as it filters out one of my triggers - VOCs. When you feel up to it, maybe you can think of your environment and what might have changed - perhaps you can pinpoint a trigger that you can avoid in future. A food, an activity, anything. Some things we can't help (like weather), but there are some things we can try to avoid. I hope you get a breath of relief soon. Wishing you more good days than bad. :grouphug:

Glad you had a respite. :grouphug: ETA: Yes, they do seem to come out of nowhere sometimes here, too. It's frustrating.
Peaceful Isle
Thanks for all the kind words and wisdom. Today is a bit better and I am trying to take it easy. It's just so hard. :( one day, you think, man this isn't too bad anymore, and the next day it hits you hard all over again. I can't really think about anything that is new that would trigger this. The weather here in CA is pretty consistent at a high 70s low 80s. I have been eating more healthy, actually, and use the same cleaners. Sigh Anyways, thanks for helping me feel "not alone." You guys are awesome.
