MomtoCandJ
Ok I just stabbed my thumb with a paring knife while doing dishes. It's not wide but I think I hit bone. It's on the outside just below the nail. Good lord it hurts and it's still kind of bleeding (did about 30 minutes ago). Should I go to the doctor? gardenmom5
does it need stitches? (if it's still bleeding, possible.) did you cut a nerve? baring those, I would probably thoroughly clean it, put antibiotic ointment on it, and bandage it up. MomtoCandJ
I don't think I hit I nerve.
5of5
When was your last tetanus shot? Sometimes you can superglue a wound shut if a regular band aid won’t stop the bleeding.
MomtoCandJ
Last one was 4 yrs ago. It's stopped now, still hurts though. Being a klutz is really painful :(
PinkyandtheBrains.
If you think you cut deep enough to hit the bone I'd go see a doctor.
Jann in TX
I'd go in to see if it needed to be cleaned before stitches (if needed)... it is really hard to irrigate your own wound! If you do not go in then run fresh water over your thumb-- and open the wound slightly to flush... I'd suggest a butterfly bandage or seri-strips to keep it closed then a bandaid over that. Keep it dry for a few days.
ktgrok
Go in. You probably need antibiotics if it was that deep/hit bone. And was in dirty dishwater! Bone infections are not pretty.
