Chris in SC
My son is not a fan of fiction. He loves science books or almost anything nonfiction especially things that are "high tech". I am looking for some science fiction to bridge the gap. Any suggestions? He is currently reading the Star Wars books.
nmoira
The Seventh Tower series by Garth Nix. I, Robot by Isaac Asimov (nothing like the movie) George's Secret Key to the Universe by Stephen Hawking

nmoira
You're welcome. I dug up some more (older): David Starr, Space Ranger by Isaac Asimov Spaceship Under the Apple Tree by Louis Slobodkin Miss Pickerell Goes to Mars by Ellen MacGregor Freddy and the Space Ship by Walter R. Brooks (the spaceship is headed to Mars but gets turned around and ends up on Earth) R is for Rocket, short stories by Ray Bradbury (also collected in Bradbury Classic Stories 1, but preread because I can't vouch for the appropriateness of the other stories) the Mushroom Planet books by Eleanor Cameron

ELaurie
by Lucy and Stephen Hawking/ An action packed sci fi adventure felled with facts about space - includes Stephen Hawking's latest theories about black holes and more. Jenny in Atl
The Seventh Tower series by Garth Nix. We love, love, love Garth Nix in our house! The Abhorsen Trilogy is our favorite but maybe better for a 6th grader. My 2nd grader listened to them but she has a much older sister...so :p
Laura Corin
Tripod series (Christopher) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tripods Be sure that you save When the Tripods Came for last. Calvin just read them at eleven and still found them pretty strong stuff - mind control anyone? Laura

elegantlion
My ds10 is into sci-fi as well. We are enjoying the Jedi Apprentice series. They are out of print, but wonderful to read. I have not read this, but another that was rec to us is... Ender's Game - Orson S. Card
AngieW in Texas
I forgot about Animorphs. My oldest started it in 3rd grade and made it to about book 30. My middle started it in 4th and made it all the way through. I read the whole series myself along with the Chronicles, Megamorph books, and even choose your own adventure books. http://www.scholastic.com/animorphs/index.htm
Mama Lynx
Have Spacesuit Will Travel (Heinlein) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_Space_Suit%E2%80%94Will_Travel . This was going to be my rec, too. I started on sci fi via Bradbury's "R is for Rocket." It was powerful stuff for my young mind. Amazing.
