Joker
I've had trouble with my B12 levels for a while. I've usually just taken any supplement over the counter, but my levels are rather low again and causing issues. So, I'm curious what is considered to be a good supplement and why. I'll be meeting again with my doctor to go over the results next week, but I know I need something new. Help!
Susan C.
We take this one, and dissolve it under the tongue. B12 doesn't digest well, so sublingual is better: http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Factors-Vitamin-Methylcobalamin-60-Count/dp/B001ECXHZI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392958024&sr=8-1&keywords=natural+factors+b12
TammyinTN
My dh give me a B-12 shot at home every 3 weeks, maybe that would be something you could consider.

AmyontheFarm
I've been using this for two years. I feel great! http://vintage-weight-loss-and-support.myshopify.com/products/vitamin-b-12-5000-mcg
shanvan
My understanding is that, if you are going to take it as a supplement, it must be from Methylcobalamin. You have to read labels. Of course, B-12 from other sources (which are ineffective) is much cheaper. ETA: I have always used one that dissolves under the tongue. Tiramisu
Generally, to absorb B12 you need something called instrinsic factor which is produced in the stomach, and we produce less as we age. Once the B12 binds with the intrinsic factor is only absorbed in the ileum, the last section of the small intestine. So if there's a problem in your stomach so you don't have enough intrinsic factor or you have a problem with you bowels (IBD or frequent diarrhea), you will have a hard time absorbing B12 and may need shots. The sublingual form may bypass this process so that's something to try. You could try the methyl form shavan mentions above. I don't know if that will absorb better, but we are supposed to process that form better. I personally was not able to increase my levels any more with that than the cheap stuff. I've also heard not all metabolic types do well with the methyl forms but haven't researched why.
