Snow
We normally eat standard stuff for lunch (sandwiches, chicken nuggets, burritos, hot dogs, leftovers). Do you do anything special when you've got the kids' friends and their mom coming over for the first time?
Catwoman
It might be a good idea to check with the mom to see if anyone has food sensitivities or allergies, and it might even be helpful to ask the mom if her kids like the specific foods you'll be serving, particularly on a first visit, when you want things to go smoothly. GSOchristie
I usually just do soup in the crock pot. I will ask the mom if her kids would prefer chicken noodle or black bean beforehand. That way is it already done and just needs to be dished out with crackers or corn muffins and fruit.
mytwomonkeys
I just double check for allergies and preferences. I usually offer a dessert :)
Snow
Good ideas. I didn't think about allergies. It's tomorrow, so...I think I'll make a quick grocery run and make sure I've got lots of options.
fdrinca
I try to avoid playdate lunches. I love the 1 p.m. start time. I'm happy to bring out lots of healthy snacks, but the pressure of lunch is too much - both on the hosting and hosted side. But, if pressed, I'd probably set out a bunch of safe foods, so lunch would look more like cocktail hour - hummus, cheese, nuts, vegetables, fruits, something crunchy. Lots of protein and fat, since the kids probably would be too excited and distracted by playing to eat very much.

I'm not much of a cook!
Starr
Your regular lunches sound fine. Have fun!
LucyStoner
No. Play dates get about what we usually have barring some special food requirement. No homemade ww bread for the gluten free, meat for vegerarians or strawberries for the allergic etc.
