aprilhwth
I know that kids learn a lot through song. But I find songs that I learned to be annoying and I hate recalling information through song. For instance a Bible verse to music is from Jeremiah, "The heart is deceitful above ALL THINGS!!! Who can knO W IIIIT!!!" Do you enjoy the Veritas songs? Are they helpful?
SilverMoon
They're okay. We have used the history program for several years now. As much as we enjoy it, we end up playing the songs about 2-3 times each school year. We just memorize the card titles in order and call it good. Occasionally I'll surprise them with having them recall a fact or one sentence summary about each card (usually with 2-3 kids taking turns). readwithem
I lean more toward silly and annoying. I don't think they have enough of a "hook" to make the songs memorable.
Aloha2U
It seems as though we may be of the few who play the songs—daily with our studies—and enjoy them. :thumbup1:
Teneo
Useful. Not wonderful yet not bad. They are catchy. Even though I'm between uses of the program I still find myself singing the songs occasionally. Looking forward to using them as a teaching tool again in a couple years with my son. I think the Bible ones are the most useful. Even as an adult.
Incognito
I don't really use the VP history program, but we have had one of the songs in the car. I find it to be a terrible song, but we all have learned it well and it helps to keep things in order in our minds. :)
lorisuewho
My children do the history one for Ancient Egypt and that seems to really click with them. The Bible one I just could not. could. not. do. it. Of course, I could not come up with a better one so I shouldn't criticize!
CAmomof4
I rolled my eyes but my kids love the songs. So, we sing them. Even my two-year-old is halfway to memorizing the OTAE song.
skeeterbug
I've been wondering about these as well. Are the tunes well-known songs? Nursery songs or kids songs? Or completely new tunes? I couldn't get the samples on their site to work. I have the cards and we memorise using hand motions, I'm just not sure if I want to add the music. Teneo
Mostly new and made up. The Middle Ages Ren and Ref has a couple nursery rhyme type tunes if I remember correctly (has the feel of a medley). Plus the song memorizing the presidents is to Yankee Doodle. Incognito
The tune we have is a repetitive nursery type tune with a xylophone style - but is new to the song.
