Tooth extraction - pain? Food?

I'm having three teeth extracted Monday afternoon. Two are already erupted wisdom teeth and the last is a molar that has abscessed and is a very small chance of saving via root canal.

So, what should I expect as far as recovery and pain? I hate the dentist and so I'm rather nervous about all of this...

I would think you'll be a bit sore and tender, but nothing horrible. I had one erupted wisdom tooth that was not impacted extracted by a dentist and it was not a big deal at all. I went waterskiing the next day. :) I don't think I took anything stronger than 400 mg ibuprofen for pain, either.

Oh, this is very good news for me! I don't know that I can do much pain medicine that won't just knock me out while I'm nursing the littlest. I also have no clue what I'll eat, but I think we'll figure it out.

No rice even though it is soft... Applesauce, jello, mashed or baked potatoes, soft serve ice cream or smoothies (with a spoon/no straws allowed), canned fruit (peaches, pears), canned green beans, thoroughly cooked pasta, yogurt (lots and lots of yogurt)...You can mash up the more solid foods if it is too much on the first couple of days. Honestly, pain levels and ability to eat seem to vary greatly from person to person. I've had my patients eating pizza the next day all the way to still not on solids for a week.

Good luck this afternoon. Hope everything goes smoothly!
