Jean in Newcastle
Any good TC lectures on it? (We are going to be reading John Donne so I do have the lecture on him marked for us to watch). Any good books? Obviously we will read the poems. I always had a bit of a problem with the kind of criticism we did in college - it seemed to suck the very soul out of the poems! swellmomma
I lucked out, our school board offered a classical poetry online class my kids took last year. This year they are using LLATL and it has a poetry unit. I have nothing of real use to helping you, just replying so I can follow the thread and get more ideas for myself :)
Nscribe
I really like The Art of Poetry http://classicalacademicpress.com/the-art-of-poetry-program/ as a foundation.
bugs
I really like The Art of Poetry http://classicalacademicpress.com/the-art-of-poetry-program/ as a foundation. We really liked this as well (and we are not huge fans of poetry). ETA: I just looked at the link and was surprised to see how much it was. We did this three years ago and only the student book was out. The TE came out right as we finished. It was quite doable with the student edition, but the TE probably would have made it a little easier for someone like me.
TGHEALTHYMOM
Andrew Pudewa's Poetry memorization. I burned it to my pc and laptop.
Harriet Vane
The very best, most user-friendly resource I have found is the text I used in college: Poetry, by Jill Baumgaertner. She is a Wheaton College professor. The first quarter of the book gives a clear explanation of how to evaluate and take notes, and then how to translate those notes into a paper. There is a really helpful list of questions as well.

samba
We have also been very, very pleased with Art of Poetry...and I agree, the TM is not necessary (but nice to have).
swellmomma
Fitting for this conversation, a lady in my homeschool support group brought a poetry study book from progeny press to the meeting tonight, that might fit the needs of some.
