nmoira
My girls would like to try soft shell crabs, Ã la the Moffats (The Moffat Museum, Straw Hat Day, sandwiches on the pier), and the neighborhood grocery is having a Friday-only sale. I've had the before at sushi restaurants and at local Cajun/Creole restaurants, but that's it. Lobsters I know inside out, but crabs... not so much. Any tips or tricks? We're planning a special lunch for Friday.
Arcadia
I like them deep fried at Japanese or Korean restaurants. This recipe is about there http://rasamalaysia.com/recipe-panko-crusted-soft-shell-crab/2/
Jane in NC
Where I live, soft shell crab would mean blue crab. Do you have to clean them? This link has a video on cleaning and some recipes. On a dock around here, the crab would be breaded and fried. At a fancier restaurant, they might be sauteed. Enjoy!
Alessandra
I just sauté them in (lots of) butter, much the same as I cook scallops. Serve with a bit of lemon. I don't have them often enough to have tried out different recipes :-( When I visited Chincoteague Island, the softshell crab were mostly sautéed as above, if I recall. I do remember a softshell crab sandwich -- just a crab in a bun, but delicious.

I think they all used the same photographer. :)
LucyStoner
Nothing is better than soft shell crab with butter on fresh hot bread. Though the sauce recipe in this link sounds fantastic. I may have to try it soon!
nmoira
They were sooooo good. :D DD the Elder ate her entire sandwich (*gasp* white bread even... for authenticity's sake), but her sister demurred (all the more for the rest of us) and easy as easy to cook. The most time consuming part was making my own Old Bay Seasoning.
Catherine
You made your own Old Bay??? What remote planet are you living on that does not have Old Bay? I guess here in Old Bay land we use it for everything so I'd forgotten what it was like not to have it...I'm glad you tried them! They are yummy. I'm reasonably sure it could be found at Fred Meyer. :)
