annabanana1992
Are there any math competitions or tests for students that are not the highest achievers in math but do well and have an interest?
daijobu
The big ones for your kids ages are: AMC 8 and AMC10 Math Counts MOEMS-- middle school level Math Kangaroo All these programs sell old exams, so I would begin with practice at home. Practice improves confidence, and when they are ready, you can sign up for the real thing. Good luck.
Luckymama
You can find all the past AMC problems with solutions on the Art of Problem Solving wiki http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/Wiki/index.php/AMC_Problems_and_Solutions
Kathy in Richmond
You could also look at Math League and Continental Math League for starters.

RanchGirl
There's also purple comet: http://purplecomet.org/ Continental Math League, which Kathy linked above, has two levels for each grade so you can take the less challenging series if you like. Laura in CA
The big ones for your kids ages are: AMC 8 and AMC10 Math Counts MOEMS-- middle school level Math Kangaroo All these programs sell old exams, so I would begin with practice at home. Practice improves confidence, and when they are ready, you can sign up for the real thing. Good luck. We did MOEMS for years, and I think it would be a good fit for what you describe -- students at a variety of levels. There are five (?) problems on each test, and there are four or five test dates each school year, which made it a fun social event for all the kids to look forward to, plus they could see their progress month to month. The number of problems on each test was small enough that a parent could work through each problem with the kids after the test, asking for different approaches to the problem. A great learning experience! ... and then the kids had pizza and ran around :) MOEMS is also a very homeschool-friendly organization. Oh - it was hard on some of the kids (and moms, haha!) who didn't get as many problems correct as other people, but we kept all the scoring confidential (done by each person for his own test), and tried to emphasize improvement for each student month to month. Highly recommended! My kids also did MATHCOUNTS and the AMC tests; these can also be fun social events -- we ran a "math club" that the kids LOVED, even kids who thought they "hated" math ...
