Elinor Everywhere
I saw these articles and found them interesting. Any crack in the dam is most welcome. Mrs Mungo
This gives me such hope for humanity. At the same time, it feels like a burden. Someone did get through to her. I can't just write all of these people off as crazies or whackadoodles or idiots.
Audrey
When I read the thread title, I thought you meant Fred was leaving. After reading the articles, I see it is just his granddaughter. I don't think that is particularly unusual. I have seen so many times where children (and grandchildren) depart from very strict religious upbringings. I don't think this will matter one bit to the hate-machine that is Westboro Baptist, but I am glad that at least one of them has a chance to live a normal, humane life. Mrs Mungo
She is one of the most visible of the younger crowd. Isn't she the one always getting in Twitter fights with Kevin Smith?

aggieamy
Those are some kids that really need our prayers. What a hard thing to do and a hard thing to look back on. Good for them though.
Elinor Everywhere
She is one of the most visible of the younger crowd. Isn't she the one always getting in Twitter fights with Kevin Smith? I think so. I haven't followed the Westboro church very much in the media, but I think why this girl leaving is such news is because she was very vocal about the "rightness" of what they were doing, and gave a lot of interviews as well as tweeting and probably on Facebook (not sure about that last one). I agree with you - I'm happy she has changed but it does make it harder to be so cut-and-dry about them. I'm thankful she got out, and I hope her story encourages others in that cult to think for themselves.
Word Nerd
The girls' mother is almost scarier than their infamous grandfather. It's one thing to leave a particular church, but this is a break from the whole family. There have been other family members who've left before, so hopefully they have some family they can go to for support.
