mom2myboys
When do we bake? Do we just make all of the pieces, bake and then assemble? What oven temperature and how long? Thanks! We are really looking forward to doing this project tomorrow.
Petrichor
Find a gingerbread recipe you think you'll like and follow it. Check on the pieces every so often so they don't burn! Actually, I don't set a timer when I bake anymore. I just check on the confection every few minutes
Arcadia
I found this thread Maybe you can PM Melissa in Australia for the oven temperature and time.

mom2myboys
I am panicking a bit because I just read the list of ingredients for the dough when I made my shopping list. Do you think I remembered frosting or candy? :banghead:
Woodhaven
Wondering how it went. Were you able to complete it?
RootAnn
We are in the process of assembling our gingerbread Parthenon. A couple of things I've learned ... With our size, we needed a 1 1/2 size batch of gingerbread (based on the recipe in the Activity Guide). I used 350 degrees F for 14+ minutes for half of the pieces & 375 degrees F for 14+ minutes for the second half. (I burned one piece. Oops!) I was afraid we'd made the walls & such too thin, but so far they are doing fine (except where my decorator/carvers got a little to enthusiastic and cut too deeply). My roof needed to be just a little bit bigger (longer? wider?), but it should work out okay with enough icing to cover the gaps. As you can see, we're using cans to make sure the walls (and roof) stay in place until everything sets. The final part of the roof will go on tomorrow, hopefully. Then, the kids can decorate a bit & eat the cookies that we made with the rest of the dough. (The recipe in the AG is not very tasty, according to the kids. If you are going to be eating it, pick a tastier recipe.) I read about three tutorials before attempting the icing (recipe on this link halved) or assembly. I am not a kitchen goddess, so this attempt was purely for the kids' benefit.
skeeterbug
What chapter is this? I should really look ahead more often, I had no idea that this is on the horizon. Now to decide if we will do it! Yours looks fabulous, RootAnn! Definitely inspiring!
besroma
RootAnn, I love your pics. Thanks for posting them. I just googled gingerbread parthenon. As I was scrolling through the images, your avatar popped up! I thought that was so funny.
RootAnn
This is Chapter 24, I think. The Spartans invaded ... and left our temple in ruins. We finished up by checking out pictures of the real Parthenon ruins. Good stuff. ;-)
