Julie in CA
I need to use up about 8 cups of figs, and I need to use them in a dessert that even people who don't like figs will like. I'm thinking that it might be good to pair them with another stronger flavor, like another fruit, or chocolate, or vanilla, etc. Any ideas? :bigear::bigear:
justamouse
A tart? With perhaps a mascarpone base and a honey glaze? (obviously with a shell)
Farrar
Fig and peach go well together. I've made fig peach tart before and it was good.
justLisa
There is such a person who doesn't like figs? That can't be right..... peaches or apples?
Julie in CA
There is such a person who doesn't like figs? That can't be right..... peaches or apples? I cook for residents at an assisted living facility. It's difficult to find recipes that will please everyone, but often I can sneak ingredients in that they don't realize are there. ;) Someone thoughtfully donated a large container of really beautiful figs, and I'd like to use them up. AK_Mom4
Cook the figs with peaches or apples and put the mix in the center of a sugar cookie. Along the lines of a thumbprint cookie with the cooked fruit in place of the jelly you would normally use. You can also spread the cooked fruit between two layers of shortbread to make an amazing knock-off on fig netwons! ETA - oooh..... just remembered. I saw this recipe a while back for Cherry Fig Bars on food.com. Edited October 17, 2012 by AK_Mom4
katilac
I don't think too many foods have a stronger taste than figs! I would probably celebrate their figgy goodness, and just make a second, simpler dessert as needed.
