Gailmegan
I got a huge head of the stuff in my CSA share this week. My parents never ate cabbage, so I never ate cabbage. Help me use this up! Any suggestions that use lots of cabbage are welcome: side dishes, main dishes, soups, whatever. The only limit is that recipes must be gluten free. Bonus points if they are dairy and/or corn-free too!
Gailmegan
I like that first one. Any excuse to have to eat bacon works for me. And my middle ds. Thanks for the link, Wendy! :001_smile:

It turned purple. Everything was purple. The stew was fine but no one could eat it because the colour made it so unappealing. Don't use it in anything requiring cooking.:tongue_smilie:

It's purple but a beautiful purple and most importantly it's delicious and nutritious. Add in the spinach and it's the most beautiful green AND purple. kewb
I like my cabbage sliced up and put in a salad. I am not a fan of cooked cabbage. You could make invisible ink with it: http://www.ehow.com/how_12146139_make-invisible-ink-purple-cabbage-juice.html
Gailmegan
Uh-oh. I didn't mean to start a debate. ;) Shopping carts, cupcakes, k-cups, and purple cabbage? Thanks for the soup idea, btw.
klmama
I like to slice it super thin and make it into coleslaw. It's good in mixed salads, too. The only way I use it cooked is for pH indicator.
Incognito
You can use some to make dye with your kids. Also, I really like what is known around here as "asian cabbage salad" Chopped cabbage broken up dry ramen noodle (without seasoning) home made salad dressing (vinegar, oil, sugar, salt, pepper, maybe something I'm forgetting) toasted almond slivers Delicious. :)
Momof3littles
Coleslaw sometimes I make a peanut sauce (ginger, peanut butter, fish sauce, hot water, a little sweetener if you want it, etc.) and just put that over shredded raw cabbage. If you like cilantro that is good with peanut sauce...chop and mix into the salad. Fry thinly sliced or shredded pieces and serve with bratwurst, hotdogs, or other sausage. Fry shredded pieces and top with cooked ground beef, ground pork, or ground turkey, soy sauce, hot sauce, a little sesame oil if you want, etc. (google "crackslaw"). Extra yummy with grated fresh ginger added into the meat while cooking.
Laura Corin
You can boil it up to get the juice to use instead of litmus paper... Laura
redsquirrel
I eat purple cabbage almost every day. The stuff that makes it purple is a great anti-oxident and very healthy for your body. I slice up a bunch, put it in the microwave for 3 mins, toss in 1/2 cup black beans, drizzle on some salad dressing and call it lunch.
