Tohru
Recently I noticed that our laundry doesn't smell very good after I wash it. We have hard water and I own a non-HE top loader. I used to use natural detergent, but decided I wanted good smelling clothes so we switched to my childhood Tide. I've been using Tide for about 4 months or so. The clothes look clean. They just smell icky. The guys clothes still smell bad, but not as bad as when they were worn, but still like guy smell. Linens smell weird. The diapers still smell a little after being washed and rinsed several times. Any suggestions or solutions? Or maybe ideas on what might be causing the problem? Thanks. TammyinTN
I'd toss in a cup of vinegar with each load. It seems to do the trick around here for running attire.
laundrycrisis
A prewash. Follow with a scoop of Oxyclean in the normal wash, with warm water. Fill the fabric softener dispenser with white vinegar.
itsheresomewhere
I add Bac Out to my laundry especially the guys laundry. Once a month, I do a hot load of nothing but bac out to clean out the washer. For laundry soap, I use Rockin Green. It has solved the problems. One Day At A Time
You could try running a washer cleaning solution through the machine. (Clorox makes the kind that we use.) The smell may be due to residue or mildew on the basket of the washer.
kb44
A big scoop of oxy clean/magic in every load. Also, make sure your washer doesn't smell, (use washer tab if so) and switch clothes to dryer immediately after washing, so they don't sit wet. mommy5
I would clean the washer out with some bleach. Then I would start using Oxy-Clean or something like it with each load. I started using a detergent that had oxyclean in it and haven't had smell problems again.

Try lifting the lid and letting them soak before agitating. Also, adding a cup of ammonia or white vinegar to the load can really help get rid of that boy funk. Use hot water too. I use these tricks on funky judo gis. Those things are why I can never have a front loader. They need to soak in a tub of water to really recover.
